Hello. I finished my breast cancer treatment in late 2020. And am on Letrozole for 5 years.  My question is after mastectomy and chemotherapy both neo adjuvant and then Paclitaxel, am I  still classed as immune compromised.  I want to book spring booster but not sure if eligible. I am 64 so would only be eligible if classed as immune compromised.
I have just had shingles so I guess this is an immunity issue so should I request a letter from GP for spring booster on grounds of being immune compromised?  Thanks.

  • Hi

I am 53 and got my booster about 5 weeks ago after my chemo had finished . I just went to the vaccination centre and asked them about it. I did take my chemo record book with me as proof but I didn’t need it. They did a bit of checking first but then said I could get it. However  for this booster they weren’t doing household contacts so my husband couldn’t get it. If you are near to the vaccination centre it might be better to go in and have a chat with them. I found it easier than trying to sort it out on the phone.

  • I was advised I would be extremely immunocompromised for 3 months, but therafter my immune status would improve back to normal over the 12 months from finishing my chemo. There is a new autumn booster containing protection against the new omicron variants. The question is whether to have the current vaccine knowing that you can't have the new one for 6 months as you should not be immunocompromised. I think for immunocompromised individuals, another booster can be given after 3 months. Its probably a discussion to have with the vaccine centre.

  • Hi I finished all my treatment last January and was told I would be always be classed as vulnerable.

I have just had my letter inviting me for my 6th jab next week, I'm 51.

I don't know if I am going to have it yet as at the moment I feel all jabbed  out . Hope you get yours.
