Hi I am taking anastrozle and suffering with the usual night sweats aches and pains etc. I have pain in my thumbs and wrists, does anyone else have this problem?
Hi Sadiecat, I’m another Anastrozole pill popper. I have similar issues, but my joint pains are mainly in my feet. I had wrist pain at the start but I’m now nearly 4 years in and that particular seems to have gone. I’m overall very stiff first thing in the morning but that eases once I get going. And the feet are better for exercise. Not nice! Sadly it seems very common on these medications. Love and hugs, HFxx
Hi sadiecat
Oh yes most definitely you are not alone!! I am on anastrozole and ibendronic, I am told, don't know how accurate this is, but it can be the worst one for joint pain. Having said that we all react differently. I am told it's the best choice for my particular cancer on that basis I am sticking with it.
Mornings are stiff better later, however also have cancer fatigue and lymphodema so all in all an uphill struggle sometimes. Like Happy Feet, cry it helps I do. Relaxation helps but it's hard to cut off and really relax blocking all other thoughts out, there is an art to it which I am trying to master!
Lots of hugs, never feel alone, reach out here. I have found this facility a life saver

Yes! been on it 3 weeks now , hot flushes really got me down! so now on gabapentin to try and reduce them, moderate success so far but I'm not on top dose yet....9 tablets a day! but I'm prepared for that as long as hot flushes can be made a bit more bearable! and yes joint pains EVERYWHERE eg elbows, knees and elbows mainly, but they did warn that jointbpains were common side effect so I was expecting them, just hope they settle x
Top tip…maybe try another brand of your medication.I’m 4 years into Letrozole and there are a couple of brands that make my joints much worse! Found the best one…still can’t move too well in the morning and feet ache…but Accord is now detailed as preferred on my prescription.
As others have said, another brand might help, but it could also be everything settling down. I had very bad wrist pain to the extent of having a steroid injection and I had wrist splints too. I had this from about a couple of months after starting to take exemestane to probably a few months ago - so maybe 6-8 months of bad pain. But it has now really settled down and I only get the wrist pain badly over night now - I just have to flex my wrists a bit in the morning and then they feel fine again.
I still get pain with extreme ranges of movement, but for the most part, it has gone away now.
Hopefully it will settle down for you too.
