Breast cancer symptoms?

Hello,

I have just turned 49. I have no children. I am a stone overweight. I have had pink hues on both breasts for a while now, and the doctor said it was fine. Sometime the nipples go inwards, and the doctor said it was fine too. I only saw my GP once in 10 years and this was for severe breast pain 2 years ago, but she said it was normal at my age.

I am now noticing that on top of the pink hues and a bit painful, my breasts are quite warm and itchy. It is now impossible for me to see my GP as the receptionists only want to give appointment via video, which I am not comfortable doing.

Should I worry about changes in my breasts? I am also incredibly tired and am losing appetite. I live Brighton and I am wondering if there was some kind of place where you can access a face-to-face appointment for breast issues.

Thank you very much in advance.

  • I was referred to the breast care unit by my GP. I would push either to be seen in person by your GP, or if they won’t do that ask that they refer you to your local hospital breast clinic. I personally wouldn’t ignore these symptoms, it could be nothing but they need checking out.

Hope you get some joy from your doctor surgery

Ask for a mammogram, only way to get peace of mind xxx

  • Please don’t ignore these symptoms…insist on being seen! Tell them you are concerned about breast cancer. Hope you manage to get an appointment soon.

  • I wouldn't ignore these symptoms either. Breast pain is a common symptom of menopause. That your nipples are in and then out and back again means it is less likely to be serious. All the same I would want to be seen. Your GP can refer you, or you can ask your GP to refer you privately for a bilateral mammogram as a starting point - its about 250 from memory. I'd imagine that either the Montefiore or Nuffield would offer that service. You shouldn't have to pay and a breast clinic where you see the specialist and have a mammogram and maybe an ultrasound is better through the NHS if you can. The full works costs a fortune privately. I hope you manage to get heard, and keep going back to your GP just to make sure you are seen.
