Hi, new to group,I was diagnosed on 28th July, stage 2 breat cancer, 3.4mm, been today for treatment options, tablets to shrink the tumour before surgery, surgery now but breast would be extremely smaller than the other one or mastectomy, my surgeon seems to think the best option would be to try tablets first, just looking for any opinions and or advice, thank you x
I’m under the impression that if they can avoid mastectomies then they will try all alternatives. You can only be guided by the surgeon but McMillan nurses are there to discuss these things with as well. Talk to the experts..don’t be left to guess which is your best option. Best wishes
Hi, don't know yet, I have grade 2 invasive lobular carcinoma oestrogen sensitive It's a minefield, I've been offered this treatment to shrink it because If they operate know it will remove too much tissue and it will be considerably smaller than the other one or just go for mastectomy.
I had a similar size lump to yours, and smallish breasts. We ended up going for chemo first as mine was up against my chest wall and they wanted to shrink it. I was then able to have a lumpectomy with good results.
I think some women try hormone therapy first, to see if that shrinks it - are those the tablets that have been suggested?
As long as the tumour is shrinking (and you will get scans to make sure it is), then it seems sensible to try and save your breast and as much of it as possible, if that's what you want
