Well today is my surgery day. Had the guide fitted yesterday as the cancer is so small. For that I am grateful. I’ve never had surgery before and I am terrified. So far the breast care team have been very supportive.
The mammogram was what detected the cancer at such an early stage meaning less invasive treatment is the plan of care. I am looking forward to returning to normal life.
My thoughts are with all those facing this disease and the care givers that work so hard to support us

  • Good luck for surgery today.  I had guide wire fitted 8am then surgery in nearby hospital at 3pm.  Was home eating soup by 8pm.  Didn't hit me for couple of days but I had little pain xx

Hi thank you for sharing your story. It is always encouraging to know your not alone.
I was fortunate enough to have a guide implant yesterday meaning I could go home and back to hospital today

  • Hi, I hope your surgery went well, best wishes for your recovery

    Hi

I had a guide fitted before my surgery and a dye. It was ok to be honest and the staff are so friendly and supportive. I think the worst thing so far is the sore throat due to the anaesthetic.

  • The guide wire is fine.  Not sure if all do it the same but I lay on table with breast hanging through hole and they jacked me up like a car and worked underneath.  I think I sang out loud as they were a humourless pair and gave me funny looks.  I sing to distract myself but usually in my head but as I'm lying there and can see nothing I thing I might have forgot!  It's like the biopsy, clamped in mammogram, sharp scratch and done.  Then standing up mammogram to ensure in tight position.

Oh gosh that sounds awful. But it’s like anything hearing it described is not necessarily as bad it sounds
