Hi I am 4 months plus post chemo and am desperate to colour my very short hair. I got a semi permanent colour which says no ammonia but does contain hydrogen peroxide on ingredients? It lasts 24 washes. What do you think should I risk it or wait . It is dark blonde so no lightening.

Be guided by you guys Heart

  • Hi Jane! I’m 14 weeks post chemo and have thick thatch of hair sprouting, it’s not long, just thick! Yay! Strangely I had the hospital call me 2 days ago asking how my hair was doing, it was the hair lady who had been off sick when I had my hair appointment back in February! I’d totally forgotten about that! Anyhoo, I told her when my last chemo was and that I’d coloured my hair, albeit cautiously with an ammonia free product (wash out one), and she said that it was ok to use a colour on it if I wanted, so I guess it’ll be fine for you, assuming your hair isn’t too delicate, if it was thick and healthy before, it probably will be now. Mine is…. Best of luck x

  • Thanks Mazz I feel a bit vain thinking about it but around my hairline hair is white and felt that if a colour was on it, it would make it look like I have a bit more. My hair was fine and is very soft but getting thicker.

Just know it would help me feel better about how I look. I had a little meltdown as felt I looked ugly. But I should be proud, as you ladies should that we have been there and that the look comes with all we have achieved.

    ThumbsupHeart️.

  • Ha Ha! Jane! I know exactly what you’re saying! One minute you’re just happy to have all the s**t over with, hair or no hair! Then, life goes back to “normal” ish! I’m just where you are, I have a good covering of dark hair, with a bit if underlying grey that looks like scalp Angry! I’m done with scalp! Wink. I’m still wearing wigs at the moment but my hubby says I could get away with my crop!? But I’m not feeling it…. definitely go for a colour, it helps me get through! Best of luck to ya!!! xxxx

  • Hi

I coloured my hair about 4 months after ending chemo, because I had so much grey at the front. I used a permanent dye which was ammonia free, bought from the supermarket, and chose a colour similar to my natural (dark blonde) colour  It worked great.  I did have a trim beforehand to get rid of the dry wispy ends though. Best of luck!
