Any information on how to deal with night sweats on Tamoxifen? Really struggling at the moment.

  • Any help out there would be great, have been on this since Jan and i think it doesn't help having different brands every month from chemist kind regards

  • I’m on Anastrozole but similar issues re hot flushes/ night sweats. Like an enhanced menopause. I had a 6 week course of ear acupuncture at my nearest Maggie’s centre at Addenbrookes. Helped a lot, didn’t stop them but definitely reduced the intensity. Also helped with Anastrozole induced anxiety. I met too lovely folk there (my hormonally deranged group, I call us!) and still meet up every few months. They’re both on tamoxifen and both found that the acupuncture helped. Worth seeing if there’s anything near you that might offer this. Love and hugs, HFxx

  • I’ve been on tamoxifen for a few months along with zoldex injections and have been really struggling with day and night hot flushes, which wake me up repeatedly through the night. I spoke to my gp who has prescribed just 28 sleeping pills for me to take one when i’ve not slept well for a few days, so very short term help.
the oncologist has given me a hot flush management piece of paper that recommends a few things I’m yet to try. They want you to firstly modify lifestyle - cutting caffeine and alcohol as these can bring on the flushes. Gamma Linoleic Acid ( in evening primrose oil) can be helpful to some In high dose capsules daily for 2 weeks. Oxybutynin also was tested successfully in a trial where patients experienced an average of 7 fewer hot flushes a day, but they have side effects so worth asking for more detail. There are a few anti-depressants too that it listed that can be beneficial, also Clondinine, megace and Gabapentin were listed. Acupuncture and cognitive therapy, yoga etc can also help.

i’ve been using wet towels to wrap around my head every night, they seem to cool me down quicker and enable me to sometimes get back to sleep. I’m hoping they will eventually settle down!
