HI All I have just had my results after having chemo (EC & Docetaxol) then single mastectomy. Anyway, I had 9 lymph nodes removed and the cancer was still in 3 of them as the chemo hadn't had done its job on them so it looks like more chemo! I have a call from the oncologist on Wednesday to confirm but have been told it will probably be tablet form alongside the radiotherapy that I am due to have. Have any of you had this and if so what side effects did you have.
Thanks in advance x
Hi, I had the same chemo treatment as you, finished in April, had full mastectomy with immediate implant on right breast with SLNB, no lymph nodes involvement so that was a relief. Saw my oncologist for pathology results and all good margins but put me on further chemo treatment in tablet form because main chemo didn't shrink tumour enough as expected. Even though I have no cancer in breast or lymph nodes they want to give it me for long term currative purposes and to get any microscopic cells that may be lurking in my body somewhere. But nothing's 100%. Anyway the tablets I'm on are Capecitabine and the side effects are near none existent. I was told that they wouldn't be nowhere near as drastic as FEC-T chemo. I'm on 6 treatments- take tablets for 14 days and have 7 days rest then start again so making it 6 cycles. I'm having flare ups on my skin on my face where it can be dry, itchy and sore especially round my eyes. The treatments can be cumulative so I don't know if I'll suffer any others as I've only had my first treatment. So depending on what tablets you'll be on is to what SE you get. Your onco will talk you through all of them anyway.
I hope this helps in someway and best if luck in further treatments x
Thank you, this has put my mind at rest. I cold capped and managed to keep 80% of my hair and just had it done for the first time last week so just the thought of doing it all again was annoying (Probably not the right choice of word). I don't think it will be the same chemo as before as that only worked on the breast lump so hopefully it will be the tablets!
Thanks again and best of luck xx
