Hi

4 weeks ago I had my operation recovering really well , great arm movement a little bit of fluid on one side due to auxsillis clearance on that side , I am still quite numb across the chest which I expected and under one armpit however in the middle of the chest  it almost feels sore is this normal anybody else got some of their experiences . Also when can you have a bath I’ve just been having a shower it’s been 4 weeks ?

thanks

  • Hi Mitch, I had a left sided mastectomy in December and am still numb around certain parts of my surgery site. I’m sure the soreness on your breastbone is due to the “jiggerypokery” of the surgery and the muscles repositioning themselves, plus a bit of nerve disturbance. They cut lots of nerves, hence the numbness. It’s been 8 months since mine and I still have strange sensations, but no dodgy lumps, so that’ll do me! I wasn’t allowed to have a bath immediately after my drain was removed because I had to keep my dressing on for a further week, then wait till my stitches had dissolved, so about three to four weeks I think. Whenever you feel comfortable I guess. The “ick” factor is there for a while, it was with me, still feels weird touching itStuck out tongue closed eyes. But I’m so glad I did it. Best of luck to you xxx

  • Hi, I'm 4 weeks post op too. I've noticed the same that I'm sore in the same place as you . And my bra is so uncomfortable !

  • I’m 6 months post op, single mastectomy, still have numb and sore to the touch bits, it takes a lot of time. I was told to only bath when the wounds were fully healed, no scabbing left at all, it took about 5/6 weeks, all the best x

  • Hi

i had a single mastectomy last week, it seems to have gone well but early days. They said I could have a shallow bath so I have soaked my bottom half but kept dry from tummy up. I know it’s not the same but may be a start?

I’m not sure how to shower as the surgeon said it was fine to get the dressing wet, but everyone else has said to keep it dry and one doctor said to wrap cling film around my chest for a quick shower - it’s so confusing!

    all the best x
