Hi
I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in June 21. I only had two chemos, which was ceased due to the tumor growing. I had a mastectomy, without reconstruction. The doctors confirmed that there was no response to chemo. 4 lymph nodes were removed and were clear. I had 15 session of radiotherapy and started capcitebine in December 21. After 5 rounds of capcitebine I had to cease because of breathlessness. It was found that I had a small PE and a 6mm lung nodule. I'm four months into a six month course of apixaban and I'm waiting an appointment to discuss a follow up CT scan with regards to the lung nodule (I had the scan on 2nd July).
I have now developed tightness in my scar region. It sometimes feels like something is prodding into me or pinching me. On my back, at the same height of my scar it is mildly red - it's not a rash, more of a blushing and it feels hard. It's not hot. And like I said before, it's like that area feels tight. I don't think there's any swelling, and my arm is not effected.
Given that there's no obvious lumps or rash, I'm assuming it's not recurrence. I'm wondering if it's late stage reaction to radiotherapy or chest wall lymphedema. Or it could just be my scar settling and me being slightly more active.
Any suggestions or comments as to what this may be?
As I say I should be having an appointment soon with the NHS following my CT, but don't know when that will drop through the letterbox. Do you think it's okay to wait for that, or should I ring my BCN. How long would you leave it before I bother the BCN?
Many thanks
Hi Snooki, sorry about your plight! I can only say that I’ve experienced different sensations such as numbness, tingling, tightness around the site of my surgery, which was 7 months ago; so I doubt it’s that unusual. However; I would certainly advise contacting your breast nurse, you’re certainly not “bothering” them that’s why they’re there. If they can put your mind at rest, then it’s worth it. Lots of love and best wishes for your onward journey….. xxxxxxx
Hi. I’ve just read your thread and it is similar to me. I had a mastectomy and full lymph removal 12 months ago. About four months ago I developed red patches on my back on same side as op. Not hot or rash looking. I’ve had dermatology look, my breast surgeon and the oncologist and they are scratching their heads. I was told by dermatology that if the redness goes white when u press it it’s not metastatic breast cancer. Hope that helps you. However I’ve since been to the lymphoedema clinic and they think it is some fluid under the skin causing irritation. I’d be intrigued to know how you get on. Don’t sit worrying ring your BC nurse. Keep in touch x oh also I have a one area of redness that feels hard too
Hi both
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I spoke with my BCN today. She thinks it's due to me being a bit more active recently and has recommended that I massage the scar. She's suggested that I resume the post operation exercises. I also found out that I have an appointment with my Onc in 3 weeks, so if there is no improvement I can get the to take a look.
Thanks
Snookie
