First radiotherapy session last night

Hi all

Pleased to say I had my first session of RT last night. Here in Spain, they don't seem to worry about giving people evening appointments, and mine are scheduled for 8pm. Added to that we are in our third heatwave so far this summer...the temperature at 19.45 was showing 37⁰, so by the time I'd got myself to the right department, I was awash with sweat! Not the best way to make an initial impression!

All seemed to go well. Just one observation; about 3 or 4 times during treatment, the machine's tone changed, and I got quite an uncomfortable shooting pain right through the breast, inside. Has anyone else noticed similar?

After treatment I had a quick chat with my cancer nurse. Lovely lady, who then told me she's only there this week and then she's on holiday for a month, so I will have finished treatment before she returns! She assured me there will be a nurse, but no one knows who it is yet!

So, back for round number 2 tonight.

  • Hi, I never had any pains from the RT treatment itself so I’d mention this to your nurse. Good luck in the heat

  • Hiya!

If it makes you feel any better, some of my RT sessions were early in the morning at the weekend ;-)

I did feel some pulsing inside my breast as they were doing the RT but no shooting pains.

    Take care xx

  • Hi, I did have sharp pain a couple of times during 2 of my 15 sessions. Not for long but enough to make me grit my teeth. Hopefully in your othere sessions you won't experience this again. Good luck.

  • I spoke with the RT technician tonight about the pain..he said there is no pain with the treatment..I said but I get a sharp pain at some stage during treatment, deep in the breast..uncomfortable rather than dreadful..his response..I think it's all in your head!! I was sorely tempted to say look chum it's not in my head it's in my left boob, but held my tongue. I'll try speaking with the nurse..I think it's my turn to see her tomorrow evening.
