Severe nerve pain requiring heavy meds and persisting nearly 3 months after lumpectomy with sentinal node biopsy. Anybody else?

Hello everybody

I'm new here.  I was diagnosed mid April and had lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy on 5th May.  In the week afterwards I had steadily increasing pain that my cocodamol 30/500's weren't managing.  On 12th May, locum GP gave me wrong prescription of 15/500's instead of 30/500 and I didn't notice and by 5am the following morning I had descended into something like madness.  Went to A & E and was treated appallingly and only given 30/500's to manage the pain and eventually my first dose of 50mg Pregabalin.  I cycled through deathwish agony for 4 days over the weekend and eventually my GP prescribed me morphine and pregabalin on 16th May.

The plan was to steadily increase the Pregabalin to the maximum dose of 600mg then slowly reduce the morphine but I'm now on 550mg Pregabalin and when I have reduced the liquid morphine to nil over a course of a week or so, the pain broke through like the same obsessive, wild, terrifying, "stop the pain or kill me" nightmare and I went straight back on it.

I can't believe it's nearly 3 months already and there is no sign of improvement. I feel absolutely bamboozled.

Is anyone else dealing with this?

I would love to hear from others.

Thank you

  • Hello I've just had lumpectomy plus sentinel node biopsy. all the build up was terrible but the outcome i think is good. the sentinel under arm tape is rubbing very sensitive not so much the lumpectomy site. theyve only told me to take codocodomol 2x500 every 4hrs but its not very responsive after about 1 hour. more of a dragging with the plaster strips. can I take anything else with the codocodomol. post op in 2 weeks with my consultant so plasters stay till then .
