Hi

i had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy a week ago - 2 nodes taken. The pain isn’t really in my incision areas but right in my armpit feels really cut but there is nothing there - is that normal?

  • Yes. It can go through some of the nerves and all feel very weird. X

  • Hi , I had a SNB op before my mx and have to say that was more sore than the mx itself! An awkward place to be cut I guess, and it was tough finding a bra that didn’t irritate for the few weeks between ops. And yes, any incision means that nerve endings are cut. Nerves grow incredibly slowly and sometimes just don’t regrow, you may be left with some numb areas, but apart from being sure you take care of the skin in those areas, you’ll get used to it.

  • Hi

Thanks for replying - the pain seems much worse under my arm now 10 days after the op than it did last week

  • Sometimes they have to dig around a bit to get the nodes so the surgery can stir things up. sometimes you get more pain later on as the nerve endings start to knot back together.I was very conscious of my sentinel node site for about 6 months then it suddenly got better

  • Hi Alexa

I had this surgery 3 months ago. With me the surgeon “burrowed” from the wound site 4 (?) inches up to get the node. Is it maybe that?

  • I am new here, Hi. I am sorry to see this. Your post caught my eye because my snb has caused me issues and I want to connect with others about it.

And I hope yours clears up in the next few days. Heart

  • Hi

did you have a bad pain in your armpit … like a burning sensation?

  • Hi Alexa

had my op 3 May. I suffered with a slight cording. I’ve just been in today for check up as since the radium treatment I’ve been left with a small lump the bcn has told me this is scar tissue. Just to keep an eye on it and massage E45 in circular motions

I still do suffer with nerve endings repairing in my shoulder blade and underarm crease above my scar area. Where it feels like a shooting pain and tingling numbness at times. I’ve been told this is normal for some people to feel these sensations

    hope yours feels better soo.

  • Thank you

I just didn’t expect this level of pain away from the incision sites

the BC nurse said to use ibuprofen gel so I’m giving that a try x

  • Burning sensation yes but was not only in the armpit but on my side body under the arm and onto my back and my whole breast.

My pain initially seemed to be significantly worse than my mums had been with bilateral breast cancer 2 years ago so she was concerned early on.

I do wonder about the “burrowing”

My mum had 2 incisions, no burrowing and barely any pain.
