About five years ago I was told I had DCIS in lb but it didn't need any treatment. Instead they would give me yearly mammograms. (Also have had recurring cysts in same left breast before and since.)
In Jan, ten months after clear mammo, was diagnosed with 2.5cm IDC in other breast with lymph node involvement and have had surgery, now on chemo etc.
Everything I read about DCIS says you need treatment but I was overed none. Am I sitting on a time bomb? Why did they not do anything? Will my current chemo for IDC right breast be enough to see off the DCIS in left breast?
I just don't know what's going on.
Thank you.
Hiya. - this is the same as my story. I have DCIS in right breast which was discovered 5 years ago but no treatment. Now I have just had a mastectomy on left side for invasive cancer which spread to my lymph nodes. They are not concerned about the DCIS - I asked if I should have a double mastectomy to remove it at the same time they said there is no need. They did say it will be picked up in the chemo that I am due to have so I guess this is their policy in terms of treatment.
Hi. Thanks for your reply. Glad to know I'm not the only one. You're the first person I've come across who's the same. It's all such a drag and so stressful. All the best for your chemo. I have my last one in three weeks. It's been ok in general.
