Hi does anyone know if feet ever recover after chemo?
What's wrong with your feet?
I had horrible thickened nails for about a year on all my toes and 2 of my toes are still growing them out, 19 months post-chemo.
My skin got very dry and peeled during chemo but that recovered very quickly.
I also have puffy feet hat don't look like mine any more which started on docetaxel. I suspect that is now the hormone blockers casing that now.
My feet are sore when I first stand up, but only for a few steps - also the hormone blockers.
What happened to your feet during chemo?
Hello, beatthebreast, the feeling in my feet is never as it used to be. Apart from losing toenails (gross) they have all but recovered but from the arches to the toes feels partially numb and weird. I’m on Letrazole now. I had mastectomy then lymph node removal followed by 5 months of chemo starting with EC then 15 days radiotherapy. My balance is now awful. I finished that lot at the end of 2021. Thankyou for contacting me. Will our feet recover? Jg
The condition where you lose feeling in feet starting from the toes (the same can also happen with fingers /hands) is called peripheral neuropathy and is a possible side effect of chemotherapy, particularly taxanes and platinum agents, I suggest you contact your GP and try to get some help with it.
I have peripheral neuropathy in my hands and feet was told by my oncologist that it should go after finish chemo but might take a while have just had 2weeks off chemo and hands are feeling much better feet probably the same as before but am hopeful once I finish and they are properly free of the carboplatine and pacataxile it will resolve it's self have been given exercises to do to help too
Arm straight out in front of you flex hand towards you and using other hand gently push against palm slightly 7or 8times so it is just pushed that little bit extra but not to far then repeat with hand painting down think the idea is to flex nerve endings and remind them they have a job to do same is done with feet leg straight point foot towards self and push it towards to 7 or 8 times and then away from you do this at least twice a day
Hope this helps stay strong sending hugs xxxD
