Hi

Has anyone had examestane rather than anastrozole or letrozole? And have you had less side effects?

I'm struggling with anastrozole its giving me carpal tunnel syndrome which i very painful, as well as the other aches and pains. I'm thinking of asking to try examestane instead .

Also it looks like tamoxifen has less side effects but less effective post menopausal. Is anyone on that post menopause?

Thanks xx

  • Hi there, I was on Letrozole and had awful joint pain so was put on to Tamoxifen which made me very weepy/angry and sick and headachy. My oncologist is starting me on Exemestane next week, so hoping it will be good. Just my experience but I found the Tamoxifen worse to deal with than the Letrozole

  • I have been in legrozole for a year. The side effects have been awful. I am at the hospital tomorrow. I need a change. I can cope with aches and pains.  But the uti s and headaches with letrozole I Carnt cope.  What would you all recommend please xxx

  • I'm on 3rd year out of 5 after surgery etc. put on Exemstane.   The other two mentioned by the OP tbh turned me into a zombie truly awful putting it politely ! so given my age one last throw of the dice and Exe worked a bit better than the others as regards side effects, hope this reply helps and you find what is best for you.  Oh btw, I had to fight to get a brand that suited me best 'cos the fillers and packings can make a differance, it cost more but the pharmacy got a special deal so that was a relief and the bean counters at GP surgery approved it on appeal -   achy joints and navy blue bruised ankles are par for the course every day and mood swings are tolerable but hey, the critter has gone for now and I don't want it coming back.  Wishing everyone  a full recovery xx

  • I am going to ask for this tomorrow. What brand do you take please as my gp is very sympathetic xx

  • It is the original one made by Pfizer they did all the research and trials etc so costs more, the generics are lots cheaper and some are able to tolerate them which is good if they can.  All part of this darn c learning curve isn't it, having said that they are making amazing advances in recent years and even this year from some media reports I read.   Good luck  -  hope it goes well with yr GP x

  • Hi Helbo just wondering how you are getting on with your meds. I have been on both tamoxifen and anastrozole and found them both as awful as each other. Did you start exemestane x

  • Hi Wajdi, yes I started the Exemestane 3 months ago now and have to say that for me. The side effects have been so much kinder than the Tamoxifen and Letrozole. Yes my joints are sometimes painful, but nothing debilitating and literally that is all I have e had. Think this is 3rd time lucky! Hope you are doing well

  • Anastrozol made me very depressed anxious and sick. I managed for 3 months then changed to Exemestane. I have had no side effects from this one. Speak to your bc nurse about changing. Best of luck x
