How quick can things change when it’s made it to the lymph nodes?

Hi everyone, so I’ve joined the club nobody wants to, but you all seem lovely so I’m coming out of denial and joining in the chats.

I’m 47 and was biopsied on a left side breast lump and lymph node 10wks ago.

Took nearly 4 wks to be confirmed it was grade 2 ER/PR+. Lump was less than 3cm but feels much bigger when having a good feel.

CT scan showed no spread, phew… but that I have an aortic aneurysm so that was a shock and had caused further delays whilst it was investigated. Will need sorting one day but drops down the priority list.

Lumpectomy and full clearance were booked for July 12th but Covid numbers have risen so they’ve shut the wards.

All these things are ok in themselves and I’m trying to stay positive and read all the good ending stories but I have a tightness that has travelled up my neck and across to the right side and now my Right breast has a lump and the same ‘tight, full feeling of a pull’ under the arm. I’m convinced it’s made it there and so is making its way elsewhere.

I’m hoping it’s some wicked physical stress tricks that my body is playing on me but feels so similar I’m really not sure.

Has anyone had symptoms like these and had better news than I’m dreading. I have a ten year old little girl and my heart breaks thinking of the worst.

Thank you and love to you all. XXX

  • Hi, I'm not a medical expert, but I don't think cancer spreads in this way.  However, why not give your nursing team, or the lovely experts here at Macmillan, a call and get it checked out. So sorry your surgery has been postponed, hope this gets rescheduled soon , best wishes

  • Firstly, welcome, nobody truly wants to be here but glad you found us. I’m really sorry you’ve had your op postponed, incredibly stressful. I’m also not a medical expert but I agree with  that it’s unlikely to spread like that so hopefully it’s nothing too serious. I’m assuming they checked your other breast too so anything significant would probably have been picked up then. That said I would contact your team on Monday, either breast care nurses or consultants secretary detailing your new symptoms and concerns so they can decide the next course of action. I have a 12 year old too and I know the stress that causes, plus the delay, the heat! Let us know how you get on, all the best x

  • Thank you both so much for replying. That’s very reassuring that you both feel this way. My breast care nurse rang this morning to check in on me (she is amazing, I read a post about someone not getting on with theirs and I feel so sorry for anyone in that situation). I’ve told her my concerns and she agrees that it’s unlikely but she says she’s going to try and put me in on the end of a clinic next week for another check (possibly with ultrasound).

My op has been pencilled in for the 26th… so I’ve got to hope no more delays for that. I know that there’s most probably going to be setbacks ahead but just want the first step underway.

Thank you again for your kindness, I hope you are both in good places with your own journey. XX

  • That’s good, positive outcome to both. I’m really pleased you get on with your breast care nurse, it’s good to have that support, let us know how you get along x

  • Hi Pembschick. Sorry to hear your story but glad you joined for support.

I agree it's unlikely to spread to quickly I read somewhere can take 2 to 5 years.

How you get your appointment soon to put your mind at rest.

It's a stressful time. Sending hugs

    Xxx

  • Thank you Bobbiboo, you’re right it is so stressful isn’t it. Lots of love to you Xxx

  • There’s so much nonsense out there sadly. There are a huge number of different breast cancers out there and they all grow at different rates so growth rates are a hugely individual thing and there is no one size fits all answer, and as  says there is huge variation between the fastest growing and the slowest breast cancers xx
