So I'm confused, I spoke to my doctor today as I've been put into a early menapause due to being 36 breast cancer, I'm wanted advice of what to do about perimenapuse. she Said with all my treatment they want my cancer gone. I'm early menapause it's not good for my bones , I'm going to ask in hospital tomorrow about calcium supplement.
She said about hrt,and that if I have a chat with my consultant about this after all my treatment , as at the moment they don't my eostrogen to rise.
But to have HRT after breast cancer treatment.
Im seriously confused.
I was under the knowledge that my breast cancer will always be receptive to hormone no matter what age, that the whole point of my treatment is to stop my hormones from ever causing me breast cancer.
I didn't think HRT was suitable for those with hormone receptive cancer.
Oh no hope your ok with your second breast cancer X
it's very odd thing the doctor said to me I feel , if I wanted my hormones I would just stop my current ovarian suppression & not go on anything again as , she seemed to suggest coming back to her in the near future, I'm not even allowed to take a hormone based contraceptive again.
My understanding is what others have said - HRT just not an option for people who have had hormone positive BC. Not now, not ever.
There seems to be an enormous push on HRT again just now and it sounds like you have been given bad advice from your doctor. I would speak to your oncologist and I'm sure they'll tell you to avoid HRT completely. Hormone positive BC is the one most likely to return after the 5 year mark as well, so it would make sense to me to avoid those hormones from now on
Are you having bisphosphonate infusions too? I have them every 6 months for 3 years. I also try and run (not far or fast) a few times a week to keep my bones strong and take vitamin d and calcium supplements. My brain stays active with work and I have hobbies that are good for strengthening my muscles.
I wasn't as young as you when I started zoladex at 44, but still considered an early menopause.
No not any of those Infusion, I'm enquiring about taking supplements today.
My bloods a month ago my calcium levels were ok, but i would rather start taking calcium & vit.
I phoned up because I needed advice on how to look after myself, dryness, itching, I'm getting a thrush test done.
But instead of really helping she went on about hrt so I'm going to have to phone up speak to someone else for help.
I'm lucky she's not my actual Doc as she was just the only one available to speak to.
that's what I thot about the whole hrt that it's not safe.
Cheers
Just becareful ask the doctor. Just the turmeric had an alteration on my chemo treatment. They have removed all my vitamins but not the calcium magnesium.
I agree, I wouldn’t take anything without checking with my breast clinic first. Etna mentioned taking calcium, but be warned that calcium won’t do you any good if you already have enough. Vitamin D is sensible for most people in UK due to the amount of cloud cover, especially if you’re dark skinned, but stick to the recommended amount unless advised by your doctor.
HRT has a small risk of triggering hormone-receptive breast cancer, so if you’ve already had breast cancer it’s probably not a risk worth taking. If you have ER positive breast cancer (the E is for estrogen - the American spelling) you’ll need to take meds to block your hormones, such as Tamoxifen (the only one I can spell) and HRT would be extremely dangerous.
I suspect your GP was ignorant so it would be a good idea to put her right - or better yet, get a Breastcare nurse to explain to her.
As ever, I’m not a doctor or a nurse or anything, so check with your BC clinic
Thank you for posting about this, I’m continually frustrated by people recommending turmeric and other supplements, they can have a real effect on our medication and should always be run past the oncologist and despite years of medical studies show no more than a placebo effect or real benefits. I have RA also and have the same frustrations with peoples recommendations to ease that x
Yeah no I asked the clinic today at the hospital , my team they Said it's fine, I'm allergic dairy so with all this stuff pumping in me,& being put in early menapause I'm not going to be over doing it .
