Started antibiotics Tuesday for possible chest infection/cough. Got 7 days worth.

Feel like getting worse, really chesty, coughing all sorts up. No temperature. How long do I leave it, had 4th chemo cycle Wednesday plus Herceptin injection. Started Filgastrim jabs this morning. Feel pretty rubbish. Jo x these antibiotics will run out Monday, but got the other antibiotics to start on Monday. Confused.

  • I’d phone your team to ask, sorry you’re feeling so poorly, hope the tablets sort it quickly

  • Hi, sorry you're feeling so grim with a mix of symptoms and side effects. I'd check in with your nurse or GP just to make sure you're doing everything you can.  Best wishes

  • I had a constant chest infection during chemo.  Seems like I couldn’t fight off rhino virus - which is a common cold.  I had repeated chest x rays.
My advice to you is to count the days until you finish chemo - you WILL feel better.  Keep telling your team if you don’t feel well, don’t worry about bothering them too much.  Your immunity must be low  atm take care of yourself tenderly xx

  • Feel like getting worse

This says to me, "contact the team."

Could be absolutely normal, some things do get worse before they get better, but you don't want to rely on guessing, and if they need to change your antibiotics or offer additional support or intervention, best you get it as soon as possible.

  • Here we go! Rang helpline, said see GP. Got more antibiotics and 6 steroids per morning to take from yesterday. GP sent off bloods, got call this evening. Very low on certain bloods. After many phone calls from helpline. Continue with antibiotics and steroids. They're ringing my GP to insist on full blood count bloods taken tomorrow and them they'll check back with me tomorrow. If levels are still low or worsen, have to be admitted for IV antibiotics. Oh and I have to try and sleep either sitting up or propped up!! Jo x

  • Thanks for the update, I have been wondering what happened. I am also curious about something: why aren't they just doing the blood tests in the hospital under the direction of your oncologist?

  • Only seen my Oncologist once. Seemed hopeless, distracted. No idea why. If GP can't fit me in, they'll have to! Jo x

  • Oh No, so sorry to hear this Jo

I do hope they get is sorted ASAP( fingers crossed ),its bad enough dealing with the side effects never mind the chemo and then an infection

do keep us updated on how you get on

  • More blood tests this morning, waiting for results, probably after 5pm today. Taking temperature. See what results say Jo x

  • Feeling as though things are looking up a little now. Still coughing, blowing nose etc. Blood results better than yesterday so helpline happy to get hospital to ring me tomorrow to see how they want to play things. Got few more days of steroids and antibiotics so hoping they'll do the trick. Keeping everything crossed. Desperately hoping we can still go away on Monday for few days break to the Lake District. Jo x
