I had to leave our dog today.....to get my plan for my Surgery...I was gone 2 hours.
Our dog has problems being alone, she never wrecks anything but she pouts at the Window, she won't eat, she won't sleep..she cries and it is heartbreaking....she waits for "anyone" to arrive.
I looked up how to soothe her while I was gone it said to play Classical Music...I have had this music on since I left at 10am...it is now 6:30 pm here.
When I got home she was a totally different dog...she was out in the back laying in the sun...relaxed....
I started cooking dinner - music still on- I noticed "I" was not anxious and also she was STILL in the backyard.....which is unusual when I cook....
I LOVE MURDER SHOWS....I usually watch them from 5-7pm....I told my son I felt so relaxed and the dog was so relaxed that I didn't want to turn off the TV music.
Usually when my son gets home the puppy whines and whines for 45 minutes until he is ready for the walk (he eats and showers).....the dog TODAY was not moving..she was laying in the living area...calm as EVER.
So we did an expiriment....We shut off the music....almost immediately.....SHE began to WHINE...I began to become ANXIOUS....and my SON said....TURN it back on and see what happens...it took about 10 minutes but myself and the dog....both went back to resting mode.
It was really unbelievable...I was NOT trying to get the benefit...and I just realized at a moment that Hey...that music is soothing me....and it is still ON....So unusual for me to miss a Murder Mystery.
I’m a definite classical music fan, always have been! Interestingly we once experimented with music played to plants in the greenhouse, gently, and it worked wonders, plants grew fast and strong!
son used to put on a light classical music programme for one of his dogs and it helped her through when they were out.

This is interesting. My pals mum owned a kennels and always played soothing music and they never barked. My daughter has a new baby who screams loudly and I can see her 2 dogs getting v stressed (after years of peace/tranquility). I too suggested classical music as a backdrop and particularly when left alone. Beast wishes!
Such a good idea for kennels....I just realized this yesterday...it works!
I totally agree. Same as you my Dad listened to it all the time and naturally I was a radio 1 fan as a youngster. However, when he had had a stroke and was in hostpital in a medical ward with a post stroke complication, I knew how important his music was to him, so I bought a battery powered radio and tuned it to Classic FM being his normal station. I was told by the nurses how much calmer that particular ward was in comparison to previously and they were thinking of buying a radio when my Dad was discharged!
My partner and I have classical music on the TV for our puppy when there's thunder or firework night. Classic FM even has a pets playlist for bonfire night.
Its really nice to have people come on and state this "therapy" has worked for them....because I didn't believe it could possibly work..our dog was crying all the time from being seperated from his Dad that has to work all day....now a whimp yesterday...and didn't even get OVERLY excited as she usually does when he got home.
It IS really amazing...same with my Dad....whenever we took rides in the car I would turn on the classical music station for him because he LIKED it.....
I didn't at the time...haha...but he was dying from dementia and needed daily care which I provided....
So Classical Music it was...and I didn't notice THEN but after yesterday and you all confirming you think it works too....
I look back and think YES...he did have less anxiety after car rides, I orginally thought he just liked getting OUT...probably a little of both.
But, I love that I am getting this validation that it works for other people...and I'm not crazy like my son said..(because now I am the OLD one) hahaha.
