Feeling hot

I’m not sure if it’s my age 44 and over weight. I’ve had my op and am I still waiting to hear if I need chemo. My Oncologist appointment has been cancelled 4 times as we wait for the oncotype test to return. I’ve had 2 of 4 results back so far. 2 returned tests say no chemo so I’m hopefully the next 2 will be the same. I had four lumps removed and reconstructive reduction at the same time in early March.  I’ve to have radiotherapy and hormone treatment at some point.
Sometimes when I’m going out or sometimes just randomly through the day I over heat and my head ends up drenched in sweat. So much so that it runs down my head and my face sweats. then I end up feeling cold and damp as I cool down. I sometimes wake at night to my top damp around my neck.  I hate going out as I’m embarrassed to be a sweaty mess.
Is it weight ? Hormones ? Anxiety?  Previously my doctor thought it could be peri menopause. I was out on HRT for a few months then stopped as it didn’t make a difference. This was pre breast cancer diagnosis. If I lose weight will it help with the sweating ?
felling fed up and disgusted with myself.

  • Excessive sweating can be a symptom of a variety of things, so I think the GP needs to widen the hunt, especially as their first guess proved wrong. However, now that you are under the care of oncology, I would try to get any referrals done by oncology rather than the GP.

Hopfully you are not going to need chemo, but if you do, ask before embarking on any attempt to lose weight; they may tell you to wait with that until after chemo. From your description, I am not sure this has anything to do with it because from what you are saying the sweating is limited to the head and neck area rather than overall, but this needs to be adjudicated by the medical professionals, after any blood tests and any other tests are done to determine what is going on.

  • Thank you. I’ve had a lot of blood tests done last year but all came back clear. Apart from low iron and b12.
thanks for the tip though I will mention to the oncologist when I get my appointment.
