Hello
I’m 4 months into letrozole. Not too bad on aches and pains. No hot flushes. But cold all the time. However as I feared, suppressing my oestrogen has turned the clock back, and not in a good way. I was a very atopic (allergies to dust, pollen, animals- which triggered asthma attacks, eczema-y, wheezing) child. Puberty changed that and I was so much better. I had my actual menopause at 46 so just over the line for technically early menopause. I did however develop a rare lung condition called aspergillosis.
As soon as I started letrozole I had eczema outbreaks. Saw the dermatologist at hospital last week (referred for entirely something else 2 years ago). On strongest steroid ointment of my life. Live in london and the tree pollen has sent me into coughing- originally nose running like a tap but continuously coughing since yesterday. I’m now indoors hovering over my air purifier and darent go out. This morning I woke up and discovered my voice has dropped an octave. Consulted Dr Google. And it’s a thing with menopause. Larynx v sensitive to oestrogen and suffers particularly.
I have face to face with oncologist at end of next week (20th May). Just added this to THE LIST.
has anyone else experienced this? I tried a search and didn’t immediately see.

Sorry to hear this Fran. I’ve not experienced it myself, but it must be so frustrating for you. I hope you get the hay fever sorted too. Best wishes
Sadly yes, oestrogen really does keep the larynx ‘younger’ and voice higher, I still had some slightly higher notes though not now a soprano for some years, I now sing first alto and suspect I might need to take on second alto soon! I’ve not been singing for a while due to other commitments but hope to get back soon. I swapped to Tamoxifen about 8 months ago but fear it’s the oestrogen lack rather than the drugs themselves. Very frustrating to a keen amateur singer!
Hugs xxx
