Hi everyone, I am on letrozole and find the hot flushes very difficult to cope with. Anyone found an antidote?

  • Am sorry you are struggling with the side effects. Some things that might help are sage tea. Some find CBD helpful. A stash of flat gel ice packs in the freezer for urgent use. Some people find a course of acupuncture settles things down. Cotton nightwear and clothing can help. If its really tricky, the GP can prescribe medication to help - I think venlafaxine.  I really hope you find a solution that works for you x

  • I am on zoladex and exemestane so the sudden, medically induced menopause during chemotherapy gave me intense, anxiety-inducing hot flashes every 20 mins 24/7. Not fun.

Glad to say they have calmed significantly but there were a few things that helped other than time calming them naturally (it's been 19 months since I started zoledex)

Dress in layers and make sure the top one is easy to get off. I had bad anxiety and claustrobia with then at first and being able to get a bit cooler quickly, helped

Get a handheld fan to take with you and another fan for your bedside.

Cool gel pillows really help me cool down at night, especially my feet which I find stay very hot.

I use a sheet at night to help me get back to sleep and then when I get cold, I put the duvet back on. I was finding that no duvet at all vs duvet just meant a continual cycle of too hot/too cold.

If your flashes are also causing anxiety like mine, then I have found acupuncture has really helped. I think it has helped frequency of daytime flushes but not nighttime yet (I have had 7 sessions). But it has definitely helped with general anxiety, sudden flashes of anger, mood changes. And all that helps with being able to feel a bit better about the flashes. I feel better able to cope with them now rather than feeling out of control with them.

I tried sage off and on and at first I thought it was helping but I think it was just the flashes calming down anyway. I've tried a few more times with little difference.

I also find activity and exercise helps. If I'm outside doing stuff, I'm not having a flush.

As hard as it sounds, I seem to get fewer now that I'm worrying about them less. Nighttime brings its own focus on them without any other distractions which I think is why mine are still much worse at night. I'm trying to train my brain not to care so much and that seems to decrease frequency and intensity.

A lot easier said than done, which is why I think the acupuncture has helped so much. It is subtle, but I feel less anxious in general and all that helps.

  • Hi

Has anyone on letrozole had the make amirox as manufacturer

I've heard in this forum people having sun pharma and accord or cipla.

  • No I haven’t heard of that one   I have tried crescent. Femera and accord.  Been on accord for a week and feel dreadful. Have rang bcn to see what she says x

  • No as I'm still finishing sun pharma at the moment 1 more week to go.

Just picked up my second lot of tablets and noticed 2 different makes.

Now I've heard about accord but I have 1 Box of cipla and this box of amirox?

Thought I would ask before starting them next week.

  • Hi, I am on a amirox brand for 3 weeks. Feeling a little tired on them but going to keep going with this brand.

  • Hi everyone, good news, specialist changed me from letrozole on to anastrozole.  It is so much better for me. Only occasional sweats. So am a happy bunny.

  • Hi how long did you take legrozole please. How long have you been in anastrozole xxx

  • I was on letrozole for a year and have been on anastrozole for 2 months now. The breast cancer care nurse sorted it out for me.
