  • Hi

What in particular are you anxious about? Maybe I can help. I was a radiotherapy radiographer for many years.

Hi Terry. I am currently half way through my radiotherapy sessions. There really isn't anything to worry about. They explain everything really well. I didn't know what to expect either and was apprehensive. The radiography machine is not like an MRI where you are closed in which is good, There will be some time spent getting you in the correct position each time and then it is really quite quick. Staying still and holding your breath a few times. There is no pain or anything like that. I have been fine after each session. Good luck with your treatment and journey.

  • Hi

The first one may seem scary as it is the fear of the unknown. The machines are big and imposing but they don’t touch you and the treatment is painless. Common side effects are tiredness and a pinkening skin.

The oncologist decided on the amount of treatments you have.

Lots of people find radiotherapy the easiest part of the journey .

Have a read of the radiotherapy threads. They have a lot of information and I can help if you have a specific question

You are so kind and you have helped me it is a journey I must go on to finish my treatment thankyou for your resurgence

    Take care xx

  • Your radiotherapy treatment is unique to you.

You will meet the oncologist first who will go through the benefits and risks and tells you how many treatments you will have.

You will then have a ct scan which shows your shape and your anatomy and that is used to decide the placement  of the radiation beams.

when you have your treatment the radiotherapy radiographers place you in the correct position and then leave the room whilst you have your treatment. They can see you and hear you at all times. The beam is only on for a minute or so at a time..If your left side is being treated you may be asked to hold your breath during treatment. The radiographers will talk you through everything and are there to help and support you
