Hi guys,

just like to say big thank you to this forum as I was fully equipped for my operation, had everything I needed.

All seemed to go well feeling ok at the moment, the only rubbish part was coming round from my anaesthetic !
I felt a bit rough like a bad mixed cocktail hangover and no sleep. Had a lovely nurse who could see when I asked for a bowel that I needed some ginger biscuits and some anti sickness medication. Felt sooooo much better after that.

I nearly wasn’t going to be allowed home because of my oxygen level was pretty low, so one thing I did take away from day was try and practice your breathing before and after surgery as this expands your lungs and reall helps.

Also if you can support your wound and try and cough, this helps clear your lungs maybe speak to your nurse to see if that’s ok.

I also met some lovely people briefly and we shared our stories and had a bit of a laugh.

I hope you are all doing ok.

  • Well done Tilly! I remember the day of my surgery and I was feeling very high when I got home, relieved to get it over with relatively pain free and I was quite comfortable. However, a day or two after, I felt a little depressed and had a few dark thoughts, but they did pass and I felt fine again. So don’t be discouraged if you feel a bit blue over the next few days, you’ll be fine and you’ll get through every bit of this journey with flying colours! Chin-up, keep posting! Well done you! Big hugs Kissing heartKissing heart

  • Hi Tilly,

Well done! I was home today too after a single mastectomy. I am sort of OK pain wise, they did not presrcibe me with any codeine but I sort of wish they did as it would help me sleep...Just can't find position that I don't hurt and that is comfy. Still awake at 3am, I can't see me sleep at all till my little one is up eewwwk.

    Take care xxx

  • Hi Stellakos, One of the things I bought was a heart pillow to support under my arm this helped although I didn’t get to sleep this morning until 3 and back awake now ! But I don’t have a wonderful child to look after that are all grown up now and sleeping in the other rooms waiting to fuss over me, I hope you have some support these first few weeks..

my throat was/ is bothering me and my chest a little as I think my lungs  aren’t working as well as they should be due to my low oxygen levels.
My nurse also said to me to take painkillers - Paracetamol & Ibuprofen together every four hours don’t wait to take your painkillers to when your in pain take them at regular intervals.

I hope this helps and you feel a little better soon, oh and also if someone could get you some herbal sleep tea from Twinings it’s not miracle cure but it’ tastes nice.

I am 56 with four daughters and a husband of 35 years, ironically I was diagnosed on our 35th wedding anniversary ( wasn’t an amazing day to be honest.

My surgery was a Thearapitic Mammoplastomy  on my left breast 2 areas and extraction of the central nodes. I have my results in a few weeks

I am feeling quite positive now , I was a  baby to begin with but I feel I am quite lucky really, as I have taken some time away from my work, I have great support, something I realise not everyone has which can be hard for some.

I hope things improve maybe speak to your breast care nurse for some tips, I am lucky my eldest is a GP so plenty of bossy advice from her coming up today! starting with the exercises.

Sending lots of hugs Heart eyes

  • Great that all went well for you. Take it easy and recover, I found I was extremely tired in the 2 weeks post surgery. I slept a lot I found getting out in the fresh air everyday helped and listen to your eldest and do those exercises, they really help.
glad you are feeling so positive and blessed, I believe it really helps Cherry blossom

  • I had surgery yesterday too for a lumpectomy and SLNB. I was feeling surprisingly good when I woke up (bit of a scratchy throat and sore so they gave me some lovely morphine). Did actually sleep pretty well last night at home - I woke a few times in my pillow nest where I had moved into an uncomfy position but repositioned myself into a more comfy spot and went back off to sleep.
I am pretty sore this morning - particularly under my arm but the heart pillow really helps. Bit sore after my morning physio exercises but I am managing with paracetamol at the moment.
Wishing everyone else a speedy recovery!!!

  • It is great to hear that you feel positive! I do too, I keep thinking that if all goes well, I might be rid of cancer!

I think I was afraid to overdose with painkillers and only took x2 Ibuprofen every 6h. Today the nurses will call and I ll check with them how often and what combo I can do too.

I am 32 and was diagnosed with ER+HER-, so we went for single mastectomy with implant reconstruction. Hate the drain but hey hoh. I also have a 2 year old thankfully, he is so great and reminds it of all the wonderful things I have to live for!

I do feel exhausted too and when I tried to get up on my own earlier I felt so dizzy and nauseous. Low blood pressure from lying down probably? I am surprised at how "immobile" I am. I feel like I want to stay in bed all day (and probably will?). I have my mum here so that helps loads.

Take care and keep in touch xx
