Hi,
i had a 3cm lump and after 2 rounds of chemo I can feel that it has really shrunk, I’d say to less than half the size. Would it be ridiculous to think I might be able to reduce the number of chemo rounds? Almost scared to ask! I was thinking maybe they could do an ultrasound after the next round. Is this stupid? I’m her 2+ and have to take 17 rounds if this anyway but I’m hoping it won’t be as horrific as the chemo!
thanks
Chemo isn’t just about shrinking the tumours it’s about sending the treatment round the body to reduce the chance of it ever coming back. It’s a bit like being told to take a course of tablets then saying “I’m ok now so I won’t finish the course”. I know how crueling chemo is but better to be safe than sorry. Really hope all is well and whatever decision chosen you’re happy with xx
That’s why I asked, thanks. At least it’s shrinking!
That’s great news that it’s shrinking , even if you cant reduce number of chemo cycles , must give you a mental boost at least
love L xx
I’ve had 4/6 TCHP and had a scan after my 3rd infusion which showed a overall 50-60% shrinkage from original size of 2.5cm. Plus, my one positive lymph node is now normal in size. It makes you giddy when you finally get some news like this after all we are going through, so I totally understand where your thoughts are. For a brief moment I allowed myself to think “it’s over” I can stop chemo now (the harsher drugs anyway cause I too have 12 H & P to complete), but after talking with my OC and surgeon, I’m slogging on through my last 2/6 to aim for even more shrinkage and “mopping up” so to speak. My surgeon wants to conserve my breast, so the smaller the tumor the better, or complete disappearance is even better!!
Not at all stupid, we all want it to stop but unrealistic yes. Having said that any chemo is better than none, some people are so poorly with it they have to stop and they are assured that the chemo they have had was worth it. Mine also showed a dramatic response to chemo, to the extent I couldn’t feel it at all, but after 7 cycles it was still there in the path report after my mastectomy albeit only a few millimetres. Plus as other have said it’s mopping up any stray cells. As they said to me when I had chemo before the mastectomy, we’re actually treating the cancer we can’t see, the lump and node we know about we can watch. All the best of luck x
