I start chemo soon and have been looking online to buy a couple of wigs. Bought one from Amazon, looked good in ths picture but it doesn't suit me, too much thick hair. Mine is naturally fine and in a short cropped style. Looked on Shein and ebay but all too long. No one at the hospital has mentioned a NHS voucher either and there is no MacMillan service there  so hoping someone on here can help me. My hair loss is my worrying me.

  • I know my friend struggled to find a wig as she has very fine hair too. She bought loads and just gave up in the end. Also short wigs are few and far between.
This is my wig, it's a Raquel Welch wig and I bought from my cancer centre wig/hairdressers with my NHS voucher, I just paid a £75 top up. It fits really well. I'm still wearing it until mid July otherwise you could have it.

    Hope you get sorted.

I bought a “wig” which should have made me look like Halle Berry, from an American website for £110..it made me look like HITLER!!  Even the dog was scared ! It’s in the dressing up box…chose wiselyJoy JoyJoyJoy Nope, not been told about vouchers by macmillan either..

  • My voucher was provided by my hospital trust, you can actually have one every 6 months

  • You have made my morning , I’m laughing so hard at this Joy Laughing Joy ( sorry Joy)

  • Hey

Maybe ask your BCN or at the hospital ? I wasn’t told about the voucher until my second chemo when they sorted it out for me

I got a fringe style one that you wear a scarf / hat with from Etsy which I like

  • Hi I was referred to wig clinic at my hospital ..a visiting service by wig company . Onco referred me and told me about voucher and yes I was told could apply for second if needed after 6 months .

I had hair cut to short pixie then chose same style in wig . Have you asked your hairdresser if she would restyle a wig to be more like your own hair ?
To be honest I had the wig but hardly wore it ,used beanie hats and scarves or just braved the American GI look Joy

I know it’s a worry but I personally found it a relief when I braved the shave because I felt more in control and the discomfort when hair was shedding wasn’t pleasant .
Hope it all works out well for you and you feel comfortable with new wig

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • Hi. I bought my first wig with my NHS voucher which the chemo unit gave me I have very fine hair and went to a NHS approved salon

I now have quite a few wigs as I enjoy changing my look. I get most of mine off simply wigs as you can send them back if you don't like them. they do cost a bit more but are well worth it . also if you see a wig you like look it up on YouTube as there are a lot of reviews and helpful tips

these are a few of mine

if you need any advice please ask
