Hi all I tested positive on Saturday and have spent the last two days in bed. Just wondered if I need to let anyone know, finished chemo, had mastectomy no appointments next week. I do feel absolutely dreadful. Thanks all. Xx
Hi Lfc74 welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have tested positive for Covid.
I would be tempted to call the Chemo unit as you may need some anti viral meds prescribed when you have just finished chemo, but Im mot sure on that, so worth asking. I know a friend of mine who has a different type of Cancer was offered anti virals when she developed Covid.. Or your GP may be able to advise.
As far as I can recall, you need the anti virals to be administered within 5 days of testing positive, and since we are now 2 days past that I wouldn't wait. Call 119 now.
In the morning, when your nurse is there, call and let her know what is happening, especially if you need help getting things move faster.
Hi lfc74
I finished chemo end of December and radiotherapy mid February. I got covid a few weeks ago. I entered my result on the government site on the Sunday and was in having an antibody infusion on the Wednesday. My temperature wasn’t settling and the cough was getting worse but I picked up quickly after the infusion. Not sure if it was just coincidence but was happy to have it.
Defininetly worth calling 111.
Hope you feel better soon x
Hi. I have just tested positive for covid this morning and phoned the cancer help line. After a return phone call from the hospital, I was given another number to call. They are going to send out antiviral medication, which I should receive tomorrow. As GreyCats says this needs to be started within 5 days, so give them a call soon. They will also want to know what other meds you are taking. Hopefully if you get started on the anti virals you will feel better soon.x
I actually came on here to see if anyone had had the antivirals and how they had been with them. I’m in the middle of chemo so fingers crossed treatment is not delayed further.x
Thank you all. It's taken me ages to register a positive test eventually it's done. I spoke with ooh gp who didn't really know and said he would get back to me when he had more info. I'm gonna ring bc nurse tomorrow they are usually in quite early. Just wish I could swallow
Hi, didn't get any joy with ooh doctor, rang breast care nurse at 8 am and left a message she responded really quickly but was unsure if I met the criteria, so went off to speak to oncologist who stared I didn't meet the criteria for anti vitals. I honestly felt so poorly had hardly slept eaten or even managed a drink. She said it could be bacterial so ring my gp and ask for antibiotics. Usually the doctors is a nightmare but I managed to get through and had a telephone consultation at 3.30pm he agreed that antibiotics would help given how I sounded and what was coming up off my chest.
Managed to get two lots in so hopefully will start improving tomorrow.
Thanks for asking. It feels very lonely sometimes bc diagnosis, menopause and covid thrown in ...someone is definitely testing me!!!! Xx
This is the NHS page regarding all of this. If you think you do meet any of the criteria, it may be worth asking your nurse to get the oncologist to clarify.
Hi! This is my first time on here, I’m glad you and the OP got antivirals. I had a total shock on the day of my planned chemo last week , was feeling a bit tired and under the weather- thought it was because I hadn’t slept well. Turned out I was positive for covid . Didn’t get the chemo- but started antibirals the same day - 5 day course of tablets which finished Sunday. Hospital said I could get chemo this week IF i tested negative 2 days in a row - had a avery faint line on Sunday and Monday then today negative hopefully tomorrow negatice so chemo on Thursday. That will be just day 9 since original test . I’ve still got a very sore throat and I’m worried it will make me very unwell BUT I’ve already now missed 3 weeks of chemo and I’m panicking the tumour will get bigger - it was big to start with and I’ve had 3 x EC and 1 x docetaxal / herceptin/perjeta . How quickly did you get back into chemo? I’m sure they will leave it another week if I say I’m not feeling well enough BUT I don’t want to leave it too long I’m worried about a 4 week gap …
