Had first chemo yesterday after 3 -4 hours the nausea hit me like a brick. Never experienced sickness like it.
Followed up with a headache and heartburn so I took myself off to bed. This morning it has eased but I have a horrible chemical taste with bright red cheeks normal temperature.
Hi CP1
My story of treatment on my profile so have a read if you wish .
Sorry you been feeling rough we all react differently to chemo depending on what we are on and how our bodies behave .
The advice I was given was to take the anti nausea meds whether you feel sick or not . If nausea doesn’t improve with meds or you vomit inform your unit . They can change the meds to suit you ..
For the chemical taste and taste bud differences ie suddenly can’t eat what you normally love For me it was a matter of playing around with different foods for taste buds .
Frozen grapes etc helped with chemical taste lots of hints on chemo thread there’s a link at the top for hints .
Let your unit know and they will offer all their advice they want you to be comfortable as possible.
good luck
Hi
Its horrible isn't it? Important to know not all cycles are as bad and I would say take your anti sickness meds regularly even if you don't feel too bad. Hospital would give me a tablet that was supposed to last all day but it didn't so I always took the meds after my first experience.
I would definitely recommend keeping fluids up, water, tea, orange juice whatever you can manage. There were lots of things I just couldn't eat and I would enjoy things one day hate it the next.
Again take the paracetamol for headaches don't wait till you feel really bad. Good luck. Xxx
Hi
Its horrible isn't it? Important to know not all cycles are as bad and I would say take your anti sickness meds regularly even if you don't feel too bad. Hospital would give me a tablet that was supposed to last five days but it didn't so I always took the meds after my first experience.

Again take the paracetamol for headaches don't wait till you feel really bad. I tried gaviscon for the hearburn but cant say it helped . I finished chemo end of jan and still get that dreadful taste from time to time. I lived off cereal and toast. I think the milk maybe eased my tummy somehow which is bizzare as i dont drink milk or eat much cereal normally!!?? Good luck. Xxx
I vomited for 24 hours after my first EC, apparently it is quite unusual to actually be sick these days with all the anti-sickness drugs you are given (& I took them), but in the end I had to go to hospital as I just couldn't stop vomiting. The gave me an IV of anti sickness and it was amazing to finally stop vomiting and feel hungry again!
After that, they gave me an even stronger anti-sickness drug to take for each cycle, on top of the ones I already had. This one, you take before chemo and for 2 days afterwards. It didn't stop the nausea completely, but I didn't vomit again.
For me, the nausea lasted about 7 days. I didn't have nausea on docetaxel, though that came with a whole load of other side effects!
Unfortunately, all the anti-sickness meds made me very constipated so make sure you have something for that too.
I did have plenty of ginger to eat which does help a bit.
It will ease, but if you have found it really bad, then ask for stronger meds next time.
Thank you. I was completely not expecting it tobe so horrendous so quickly.
Drinking lots of water today and nothing like yesterday thank god.
Steroids have given me very rosie cheeks as well.
I will get some ginger xx
Hi lovely
This is exactly me ! I’ve had two EC , first one I was sick after a few hours and I was shocked as I took anti sickness meds beforehand . Second time they changed the meds , took them beforehand again but was still vomiting hours later , this time the actual vomiting was only 24 hours
I’m going to have to try different meds for next time
All I can say is keep with the meds , small bit regular sips of water / juice and if you can even try little nibbles of tea biscuits or ginger biscuits to try and get something in your stomach
I am terrible for travel sickness and had pretty bad morning sickness too so I kind of thought the nausea would be there but surprised at the vomiting !
Sending sympathetic hugs
L xx
I also had bad morning sickness. Trying to eat and drink today hopefully will pass soon. Waiting for nurse to call so I can tell her xx
Definitely tell her yeah , she can maybe get some different meds to you before the weekend
I also second what Anna says about omeprazole , that helps too ( forgot about that !)
love L xx
