Hello, this is my first time posting here so apologies in advance if I make a mistake.
I am 21 years old and went to the gp because I was concerned about a lump under my armpit which has been there over a month
The gp did a breast examination, she didn't say much other than she doesn't think it's anything but she's going to refer Me to a breast clinic because the lump has been there for over a month and not gotten smaller or gone away. She also said she thinks it's a lymph node (I think she said swollen I can't remember.
She said if I don't see anyone within 2 weeks to ring the gp back (unsure if this means I had a urgent 2 week referral)
I suffer from anxiety so this past week I've been overwhelmed with anxiety and emotions, outbursts of crying and overthinking waiting for an appointment
Scince the appointment I've noticed change in one nipple shape, today I've had bruise like pain on the back of my spine and thighs but my mum has dismissed this as not taking my iron tablets. I just checked my breasts now and I have blue veins around my breast area and upper chest which was not there before
Should I make another appointment with the gp tomorrow and let them know of these other symptoms?
I've also had a rash under my wrist, just raised bumps which hasn't gone away for a month either
Thank you for any help or advice it really would be much appreciated
Hi,
I would get another appointment booked in, I had the same issue in Nov, lump appeared in my armpit and didn't go, as I had covid they were not too concerned, but I had another scan and biopsy and I sadly was told it was cancerous.
Have you had covid recently or the vaccine, as that can cause it to happen also as the hospital said they had seen a big increase in people coming in with lumps in their lymph nodes, but to be on the safe side I would definitely get it checked again.
If you want or need to chat I am here xx
I'm sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis, I hope all is well at the moment
Last vaccine I had was in December and haven't had covid, I just feel stressed with everything especially with final year of course in college I hope it won't affect my grade because of me being stressed,
Thank you so much and I will do
Hello and fab GP referring you given your young age. Did she also refer you for some blood tests? As has been said inflamed nodes can be down to infection, virus etc. so blood tests may show something up.
Blue veins around breast area - Mine became very prominent when I went on Pill and when pregnant so these changes can be hormonal. Also when we are stressed we notice everything more be in a mole that's been there years, tiredness or pain.
I was referred under 2 week pathway when I was 40 for lump under my arm. Turned out to be a fat pad - literally breast tissue outside the breast.
Thank you, I'm glad it wasn't anything serious,
I had a blood test the day after,
Few abnormalities
Mean corpsucular was low
Mean corpsucular haemoglobin was low
Haematocrit was low
Serum folate was low
My gp told me to keep taking iron tablets
And could the blue veins be there because my menstrual cycle is nearing
Thank you for your help
Just checked patient access, been prescribed 5mg folic acid
Hello MissCatLover. I can think of several reasons for your symptoms that have nothing to do with cancer, but what you really need are clear answers. If you plan to see the GP again, you could ask them what is causing the abnormal blood test results, why the low haemoglobin. Iron tablets will take care of the symptom, but I would want to know what the underlying cause is.
Have you been given a date for the breast clinic appointment?
I was anaemic from teens due to heavy periods. I took iron for years but different GP said not good for long te4m use and eat more spinach instead - which I did! Th3n a few years later I'm pregnant and get call in work saying get to GP now your blood test results show anemia. I had iron injection then given folic acid to take 3" minutes before iron tablet to improve absorption. I remained on low side ever since but as I'm not excessively tired or pale thru think normal for me.
