Hi , I'm due to have my first lot of chemotherapy in a couple of weeks I'm scared of everything blood clots infection all .I start EC 3 lots then for lots of something else
I had my first EC three weeks ago and caught a cold during days 10-14, when they said my immune system would be at its lowest. It was completely like a normal, mild cold. Not saying don’t worry but it’s not an automatically massive issue if you do get anything. Just keep an eye on your temperature so they can get on top of anything quickly, if needed. X
Hi
it was a bit of a shock, if I’m honest. The tablets do keep on top of the sickness well but I just could not sleep for days - I have sleeping tablets ready this time. I think the side effects I had were mainly due to the steroids …unable to sleep and then felt so depressed when they finished abruptly. I have round two tomorrow and am going to ask for them to be tapered. I think it was partly just not knowing when it would end. In reality, I felt foggy for a few days with the steroids, then days 4-7 were pretty horrible and I didn’t get out of bed much and then it just lifted and I’ve been back to normal from day 9. If you just go into it expecting a rough few days, it might not be too bad. And, yes, everyone is different and I’ve spoken to plenty of women who said it was a breeze.
good luck and let me know how you go on.
xx
Hi I didn't get any infections on EC at all, it is hard going but I usually found that by the second week I was over the worst and by week three back to myself.
Best advice is take the meds, don't wait to feel sick take the anti sickness meds before hand, take your paracetamol will help the aches and pains and if your suffering with constipation or diorreah take the meds for that too!!!
I regularly got thrush on docetaxel but once nurses knew they acted really quickly and made sure I had antibiotics each cycle.
Good luck xxx
Hi poodle
I have just had 4lots of EC and my 1st pax/cabo it's scary but nots as bad as you imagine whilst waiting for it to start .I think the unknown is always worst ,for EC you have a nurse next to you whilst you have the treatment as it is done as a push rather than hanging bag it gave me nausea which is keep under control with the medication they give you to take home I would advise taking them no matter how you feel it also gave me both constipation and diorheer making sure you drink lots and eat something does help I hope this is a little help sending cyber hugs xxx
Cycle 3 FEC for me tomorrow. Not been too bad at all no sickness, have been tired but managed a wall most days. Slight headaches, some indigestion type pain , achy legs, low back pain from injections. Bit down today, but this is doable. I will be half way through my chemo tomorrow. Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Jo x
