Exercise?

I’m currently on my 2nd cycle of Docetaxal of 4 then 4 cycles of EC. The first week I’ve been pretty tired but still managed to get out with the dog twice a day. By week 2 and 3 I’m more back to normal. Before all this I was a keen cyclist and played badminton twice a week. I was wondering if it’s safe during chemo to play the odd game of badminton and possibly light cycling? Don’t want to cause any problems that I could prevent.

  • I think you can do whatever you body says you  can. It's good to stay active.

I didn't cycle or run during chemo (I did before) i but walked most days.  On the worst days it might only.have been a mile but other days I could do 4 or 5 miles. I am just trying to build up cycling again now my chemo has finished.

    Good luck

  • I was hoping to try a game of badminton on Wednesday to see how I cope. I’m feeling like I’m up for it so it’s worth a go. I tend to walk around 4-5 miles a day with the dog at the moment which is quite a lot less than the normal but don’t want to push it. Thanks for your experience

  • I’ve still been cycling and running a bit during chemo - less than normal but c20-25 mins each time. Typically in the week ‘off’ in between my fortnightly sessions. My consultant said it was fine as long as I felt ok and didn’t overdo it.

  • I was sure if it was alright and I don’t see my consultant till the 26th and fancied trying badminton this week. I think I’ll go and just see how I feel.

    1. Do as your body says and be careful of your PICC x I’m only able to walk for 20 mins in mornings since 1st cycle chemo a week ago, feel dizzy/sick but by afternoon I feel I could do a marathon, but don’t!
