I went for surgery today (second excision to try to clear margins) I ve had chemo in between operations , my last chemo treatment was 4 weeks ago. My surgery got cancelled today (as I sat there in a gown waiting to go to theatre) because my white cells were too low .
I now have another date for surgery in 3 weeks , 7 weeks after chemo. I'm worried now about leaving it for even longer . My first surgery was November.
How long has anyone else waited between chemo and surgery?
Thanks xx
Thanks. Im exhausted with the stress of all of this . It's like being in a cage you can't get out of

Hi
i had my last chemo in 26th Jan (2017) and had my mastectomy on 4th April same year, Previous to the chemo I had lumpectomy and no clear margins , two cavity chest shaves and still no clear margins so mastectomy after the chemo - so probably about 10 weeks after my last chemo ? No cancer found in the mastectomy tissue , so try not to worry unduly , stray cells which may have been in your breast may have been zapped with the chemo ? And no clear margin doesn’t mean there are any cancer cells , just that the margin from the cancer cells is. It within guidelines.
Still horrible waiting though , particularly when you are ready for the op.

Yes it would be good to do that to this disease.

In a conversation with my breast surgeon, she stated she would never touch a patient prior to 4 weeks post-chemo and prefers to wait at least 6 weeks. Looks like they were hoping you would be well enough for surgery at the very earliest (4 weeks) but are now going with the "at least 6 weeks" approach (that's on assumption the surgeons follow similar guidelines.)
Hi my situation the other way round to others and yours but any delay let alone 3 weeks is a real gut punch for you. I found lump area 5th Nov. The lump I felt was benign but as a chance finding a suspicious area found at urgent clinc appt 21st Nov by the ultrasound consultant and 5 biopsies taken and mamogram. Cancer result 1st Dec then further tests before surgery could be done as invasive lobular cancer. Contrast MRI, Contrast Mamogram, Ultrasound. Results of those Dec 23rd. Surgery 10th Jan and as found in 2 sentinal lymph nodes, even though a clearance found on tumour I was offerd the 2nd second surgery or radiotherapy alone. I went for surgery and glad I did as 2nd surgery on 7th Feb found 2 further lympth nodes during the lymph node clearance. So 4/10 firgive think I have already perhaps said. Chemo required. Chemo 1 22nd March Chemo 2 was yesterday with a slight bleep on 21st when needed to get prescription for mouth thrush fro. Gp within tge day or my chemo 2 potentially cancelled. Gp responded to my request within the ticking time frame as tge chemo meds needed ordering in from a main hospital asap as my apptmt hospital diesn't stock them. In the time wait my nerves were shredded and that was only hours. I was hoping to hear you had had your op and am very sorry it didn't go ahead. Every way we can move forward helps and the waiting is the worse really. If my Chemo goes plan fingers etc all crossed it will bring me to July 7thish then a break before radiotherapy. Forgive typhos and 4am post I do have brain fog a bit with chemo and just been up doing some meds etc. Hope you have friends and family support and perhaps help lines for advice should you choose. I do know nothing can take away the wait though. Everyone wants to be in charge of our own time and health. Some many people are involved in that now you feel frustrated. All the best. x Busylife...well it was supposed to be a semi retirement looking after my granddaughter life had other plans.
Thanks for your reply. It's good to hear your invasive lobular was clear on the margins as I have that too. I think you have said before but forgive I have brain fog too with all of this.
I had a total melt down last night after the stress of the build up to surgery and sitting waiting to go when I was told it had to be postponed . I rang mcmillian for the first which was helpful.
I hope your chemo isn't too bad. You are nearly there.
