Just had lumpectomy with wire guided sentinel lymph node biopsy, all went well apparently but I am looking for travel insurance now as I understand it can be really expensive now, can anyone help? Obviously early stages as not had any other treatment yet only had op Friday

  • Hi

Here's a link to the travel insurance forum .  Due to it being an insurance regulated product there can't be any recommendations from anyone at Macmillan, but you will find a lot of helpful suggestions here.  When I need travel insurance (I'm nearly 5 years down the line) it doesn't cost me any extra as I had grade 1, ER+ and no spread.  I only took travel insurance after I had finished my radiotherapy so I don't know if there is a different cost whilst still undergoing treatment.

    Hope this helps.

    Enjoy your holiday!!!

  • Can I just hijack this….do we have to declare this always now….when through active treatment etc? I usually just have travel insurance as part of my partner’s job package (his immediate family is covered) and am not planning to travel until chemo and radiation are finished (but will have ten years of hormone therapy still). Do we need to notify them?

    thanks

  • Hi

Yes, you do.  Even if you were ill with something else and they found that you hadn't declared something, then your insurance could be invalid.  I am on hormone treatment and all I had to do was put breast cancer, then it asked whether I was still undergoing treatment,  I said yes and hormone treatment was one of the further questions about further treatment.  It made no difference to my premiums but I always declare it to be safe
