Hi I finished my Chemo for her2 positive breast cancer in December last year, I am still having phesgo injections, I had surgery in January this year and will be having radiotherapy the end of May. I have tested positive for Covid, I have headache, eye ache, body ache, shivers/chills, feel quite poorly. Does anyone know if my immune system is back to normal now?

  • Hi, so sorry, I would err on the safe side and ask your bc nurse and your GP, perhaps request a PCR.

  • Hi Teresa59

I finished chemo in December and had covid last week. I entered my result into the covid app so the NHS would know officially that I had covid. They got back to me after a bit of chasing on my part and I was given an antibody transfusion which helped me fight of symptoms. Not sure if it was coincidence but my temperature came down the next day and the cough quickly improved.

I believe some peeps have also been given antivirals to help them.

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • Hi Teresa, I finished chemo in November and am still on phesgo. Phesgo affects your immune system too, you should still have an in date emergency red card and can access antibody and antiviral treatments. I also have just had covid and had antibodies which I obtained by ringing the oncology hotline, others have done it via 119 or 111, you need to have them within 5 days of symptoms or a positive test. I did feel they helped me fight it x

  • I completed chemo in Jan, radiotherapy in Feb.  I am also on phesgo injections.  I had Covid just over two weeks ago. I had a temp, body ache and a cough.  I logged my positive result and got a phone call from the hospital offering me anti viral drugs.  These need to be taken within 5 days of symptoms starting. My symptoms were mild so I chose not to have the anti viral drugs.

  • Can i ask how long you left it before chasing them, i've reported a positive LFT this evening and was just wondering how long they took to get back to you about antibody treatment.

  • I reported my result on Monday am and got a call later that afternoon. They were quite good as they gave me time to think about the anti viral drugs, phoning me on Tuesday to see if I had changed my mind.

  • Hi catndog

I logged my positive lateral flow test on the Sunday evening on the covid app, got an email the next morning saying someone would be in touch within 24 hours. Tuesday afternoon I had a phone call from a Dr who asked when I had finished chemo and okayed me for further treatment and said my local hospital would be in touch. Dr from local hospital rang within minutes of me putting phone down and decided I should have infusion of antibodies and was booked in for the Wednesday morning. I also phoned my GP to chase as it was longer than 24 hours and temperature was over 39 and cough was becoming more troublesome.

Hope you get sorted and feel better soon x

  • Information for all of us. I am now day 14 of testing positive. Remember even under old rules we could go out after 10 days as we were unlikely to be contagious? Well they just cancelled my phesgo injection which was today as no matter how many days have passed, if you are testing positive on an LFT you could be contagious! I have to go to a special covid/cancer unit at a different hospital on Tuesday. I’m in bucks. So if you are still undergoing treatment avoid anyone who is still testing positive no matter how many days have past, and if it’s you that’s still testing positive save yourself a trip and call the ward first x

  • Daughter is still testing positive on day 10 of her first positive test, though says todays extra line was faint. She had the antiviral infusion on day 2 of testing positive. She has agreed for antibody testing from the Covid at home team but in any case will also be tested by her immunology team as they want to know whether her 4th vaccine has helped or not. (She has weekly immunoglobulin infusions, self administered, to try and keep her well due to a huge treatment burden from a blood cancer)

She’s left with hefty cold symptoms now, and is using her steamer to try and sort the congestion.

Hope you all get treatment sorted.

  • I really hope she’s feeling better soon. I still have a cough and some congestion. I just wish what was being said was uniform. Yesterday I attended the practice nurse for holiday vaccinations so issues as over 10 days, today I’m sent away from the hospital because that doesn’t matter. They’ve been telling us for months after 10 days is fine. Issue for me is we’ve all been following guidelines that still leave us at risk potentially. I had my antibodies  on day 4 so 10 days ago just for info x
