Just wondering about others experience with their hair regrowth after chemo.
I finished chemo 4 week ago and have 7 days left of radiotherapy. My hair has started to grow back but appears to be just round the sides and back. Is this normal??? I have managed to embrace the baldness throughout this journey and only ever wore anything on my head when it was cold and only now am I getting conscious about how I look with the regrowth.
I finished chemo Jan and radiotherapy in Feb. My hair has been the same. Back and sides started to grow back first. I now have hair all over but the front bit is still a bit behind the rest.
I'm 8 weeks post chemo and my hair is has really started to grow now. Even within the last 2 weeks it's had a spurt. It's still very scant at the front and from what I've read that's the last bit to grow back.
My eyelashes also appeared a week ago, almost overnight.
Im feeling much more confident about going out in public with no hat or wig, although I have worn my wig for work.
Thankyou Sparkles2021, I was getting worried I might look like an old man, no offence to old men!!!
Thanks for the reply Jacala. Good to know ill finally get hair on top!! The sides are coming in nicely, maybe have to practice a comb over!!!!
My back and sides were also the last to fall out and the first to grow back and grew quicker than the top of my head. I had a bit of white fuzz growing back during docetaxel, but it was very slow to start growing after chemo. It only really started to take off between months 3 and 4 and I didn't wear a hat outside for the first time until my 2nd week of radiotherapy and that was over 3 months after chemo. I went for it then because radiotherapy felt like the best place to be brave about showing off my extremely short hair.
My hair was also very slow growing at first, along with my finger nails. It probably took abut 8 - 10 months for nails and hair to start growing fast again (need to trim nails every week).
Even now, my toe nails are still not back to normal and are growing very slowly. A few of them are still showing about half the nail still very thickened and abnormal from the chemo. It is going to take several more months at least for them to grow out.
I finished chemo in Jan 2021.I still haven't had a hair cut - my hair is the same colour as it was before but a bit curlier. I can now straighten it too, but only recently been able to do that and for it to look good. When I straighten it, my hair is just past my eyebrows though side hair is longer.
