Hi all

I finished chemo end of December, radiotherapy mid February and am continuing on phesgo every 3 weeks.

I got an email saying I should have antivirals if I test positive for covid.

I had a positive test last night and have cold type symptoms with a fever. Have logged this on the government site, called 111 and spoken to GP all so far with no result. Not sure what to do next, feel like I am being left to fester!

Any ideas out there?

Gillie

  • I am so sorry to hear all this .  We have just being talking about 's daughter about the very same thing.

My first thoughts are can you reply/contact the people that sent the email and explain all.  Now I say this in my own mind 'I don't think you will get much help from your own GP - as I don't think they will even begin to know or understand this (even though they should).

I wonder if you could speak to moomy about this and see what her thoughts are, might be able to point you in the right direction.

In the meantime, I hope you start to feel better soon, plenty of fluids and 'don't stress' xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi, I think 119 might be the better number to try?
please, please, get back in touch with your GP, and also your hospital team.
in the meantime, rest as much as you can but keep an eye on your sats, especially oxygen sats. If you feel at all concerned, phone 999.

Yes, as has said, I’ve just been having this with our daughter who hasn’t just got a chemo-reduced immune system, she has NO immune system due to a huge treatment burden for a blood cancer. She has now just been prescribed antiviral therapy in her haematology unit hospital hopefully tomorrow if they have the staff!

  • Hi Moomy

Thanks for the reply. I have tried 119 and just end up in a loop unable to talk to anyone.

Have tried the chemo ward who don’t know anything about it. I seem to be stuck. X

  • One other option is the chemo hot line. Even though you finished chemo in December, they should be able to help.

As for dialling 999, they don't give medical advice and you cannot get hold of a doctor by calling them.

  • Tried the chemo hotline and they’ve tried the covid admission ward who say GP or111,

they have just phoned back re having me admitted! I have a bit of a sniffle and a temperature, just want some pills to stop severe effects and to go to bed!  X

  • Brilliant how they keep sending from one to the other, round and round. I am glad they called back, though. When do they want you to come in?

  • Oh that’s good, hopefully you’ll be helped and soon will feel much better

  • Hi Gilliebean, I’ve just had the IV antibodies, I got them by calling the oncology hotline, the contacted the covid team, a covid consultant called me and arranged for me to go in for a couple of hours and be given the treatment, took 2 hours in all, I’m in Bucks. It appears that each area is doing things differently, another poster got antivirals via 111. The gp here doesn’t want to know, says they’re not in control of it at all, I do wish there could be a uniform protocol x I finished chemo in November btw x

  • They think I should be admitted because I have a temperature, just waiting for them to ring back. I just want go to bed! X

  • Daughter texted and said, yes, she got sent round in circles, too. She’s going in for midday tomorrow.
