Hi

I have an appointment with the oncologist tomorrow , I expect to start anti oestrogen tablets probably letrozole.

I worried re side effects. I was a very active person before diagnosis, exercising most days, running, cycling,  gym.  I worried I won't be able to get back to that due to being on this medication.

Does anyone have a positive experience of the medication?

Thanks  xx

  • , yes, I’m still NED after 13 years. I found it tough, but keeping to the brand that suited me best helped. Also I kept active, found activity helped with the pain and fatigue. Also,BCD oil. Some people change to exemstane or similar, and that helped. Good luck xxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Hi, been on Letrozole for 6 months now and honestly I don't get any of the side effects. I was worried about it and have been very lucky,  I get the odd stiff feeling in my hands, op usually in the morning, but that goes within a few minutes of getting up.  I walk, about 12000 steps a day, and work full time.  Hope that helps and fingers crossed you are lucky too

  • Thanks so much for your reassurance.  I hope it goes well for me too xx

  • Hi I’ve been on letrozole for 10 months. I find it pretty tough especially shoulders arms feet and fingers, however I’m still on a chemo that gives same side effects so I’m hoping when chemo finishes in June , that i see a difference. I’m staying positive as I feel this will help me long term. Good luck with your treatment x

  • Ps I switched to the original brand Femera which is supposed to give less side effects

I have been on Letrozole for 7 weeks, and was dreading a repeat of menopausal symptoms, and bone aches....

    I have been fine! :-)

I have tried to stay as active as possible since diagnosis at the end of June 2021. (absolutely impossible after surgery and during some weeks of chemo).

I have had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy (finished 7th March), and whilst I do have some skin burns and lingering chemo side-effects, they haven't stopped me from getting back into daily exercise in the last couple of weeks (dancing / cycling / circuit training / walking) now that I have my energy and enthusiasm back.

I was told that if I can make it through the first 12 weeks of Letrozole ok, then I should be ok for the remaining 5 years.

Fingers crossed that your active lifestyle will help you, and  you can breeze through it. x

  • Thanks Sten that's really helpful and reassuring xx

  • I'm on exemestane rather than letrozole and I looked up reviews of it on drugs.com before starting and filtered on 10/10 reviews only! You tend to only hear the worse side effects online as people are looking for help. All the good reviews put me in the right frame of mind for starting it

  • Thanks for the advice. Yes its true people are more likely to post when they have problems.
