Just a quick one to see how everyone who has had to deal with head hair loss is doing. I buzzed mine off a couple of days after my second EC, I’ve just recently completed my third. I’m starting on docetaxil on 21st April and have heard that this is even worse on the follicles! Thus far I’ve kept my lashes and brows (they seem normal enough). Ooh I’d recommend Causemetics mascara, it’s gentle and easy to remove (designed for chemo lashes). Anyway, has anyone lost their lashes and brows with docetaxil. I can manage with the lash thing, I have some C-lashes, again, designed for cancer patients, but I was wondering if anyone whose brows have gone is still left with a “track” that they can use as a guide to draw them on. I know this is a trifling thing when people are dealing with much more serious issues (I wish you all well ). But sometimes it helps to feel as normal as possible through all the adversity, it’s a bit of a project for me, keeps me focussed on something a bit positive when I can disguise my “egghead” in a nice hat or wig, so just getting ready for the next bit! Wishing all my fellow forum friends strength, peace of mind; a speedy conclusion to treatment and a happy outcome
xx
I'm a little further along than you. I found I lost my eyebrows around Christmas time after my first Docetaxel. They hadn't started to go sparse but I was able to fill them in with a pencil, however they were literally there one day gone the next!!!! I could feel hair but couldn't see it and that continued through January. I think it was also a loss of pigment and my skin colour wasn't great around this time. I also got repeated infections in my eye not sure if this was lashes coming out, nurse told me they can grow inwards to protect themselves but it was quite irritating.
Had final chemo 31st Jan and was hoping to see improvement end of Feb........I didn't!! I cold capped and have done really well with my hair all though it's still coming out, but again this week I had no brows on Monday but Wednesday I noticed they were returning!!! I used a kind of eyebrow gel that stains the skin and at first thought that's what the colour was but sure enough the colour is starting to return!!! Little things like eyebrows and lashes are a big thing as they make us look like our normal selves and I felt I looked poorly without them.
Can't wait to colour my hair and get it cut and start looking and feeling a bit more like my old self
Love and good health to all xxx
Thanks for that, it’s useful to know that it can all happen so quickly. I was toying with the idea of being armed with a pair of sick on (quite realistic) brows, but they cost about £75 so didn’t want to invest too soon. I think I’ll get them anyway. Be prepared and all that . Glad to hear your hair is making a comeback; onwards and upwards! Best of luck! xxx
Well we are all different! I personally found that my eyebrows and lashes thinned more on EC than the docetaxel and my hair on my head actually started to grow a tiny bit on docetaxel, I got a fuzz all over. My eyebrows thinned hugely, I only had a few strands but they didn’t totally disappear x
Thanks for that, I’m always relieved when I hear that folks are getting their hair back. I can deal with this when I remember it’s temporary. Because there have been a few stories (concerning Docetaxil) where people don’t seem to be getting it back, or at least not very quickly. All the best to you xx
Hi, I've had three cylces of EC and my first Docetaxel 10 days ago. I have managed to hang on to a few eyelashes but my brows have almost disappeared. LIke Angua1 I was also pointed in the direction of the Look Good Feel Better charity and have done their make-up and skin care online workshop. The workshops are on Zoom and there are only 12 - 15 people so you can really get involved and ask questions about things that are relevant to you, you get a free goody bag sent afterwards too. I am doing a hand and nail version next week and a hair one later on. I would defintely reccommend giving them a try, iI found it a real booster when I felt like ****.
