Hi all.
I have had bad reactions to the dressing used for my Picc Line. I end up with blisters all over. I'm currently using Mefix MEF27R Dressing Reten Sheet. Today I developed a blister right on the edge of my picc line causing it to bleed.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The dressings i have used are the only ones they have at the hospital so I'm quite happy to buy something.
I have terrible veins normally which is one of the reasons I have a PICC Line
Thank you
Carol

Hi Carol,
I had the same problem with my picc line dressings
i had blisters too
we went through a few dressing which didn’t help
eventually a dressing called “ Mepitel “ - we used this one as the primary dressing it can be cut to cover the skin from just below the insertion site and the dressing that holds the butterfly of the picc line can be placed on the mepitel dressing so that the stickiness is no directly on your skin
then a Biatain silicone dressing to cover the picc .. it is also very kind to the skin. That’s what saved me and am sure it will help as I ve used these dressings for elderly patients who have very fragile skin and it works ( I am an emergency nurse practitioner)
Hence I had to advise my oncology nurses to use this on me after we tried everything they had which didn’t work
You might need to buy your own as most departments don’t have it
even for my mastectomy wound it’s what we are using as I developed blisters with the dressings they used in theatre
good luck
I will try and attach pictures of the dressings if technology works
I too had reaction to dressings now swapped to Iv 3000 and not one itch or blister
Just checked my notes and I got it wrong it was the Iv 3000 that caused the reaction so changed to opsite and it’s a good job I checked as nurse was just about to whack a Iv3000 on me
The nurse has tried this dressing. Still a bit itchy and have noticed a couple of blisters appear. So fingers crossed.
My OH had trouble with an allergy to the glue on his patch pump for Type 1 diabetes. He was given a spray to put on his skin before sticking the pump on. I'm sorry he isn't here so I can't ask him what it was called but it worked really well....his skin was both itchy and blistered like yours before he used it....so if you can't track it down by asking, come back to me and in the meantime I'll try to find out the name for you.
Hope the chemo goes well for you. Love Karen
