Hi

I've been on a trial tablet and anastrozole for 3 years ,because I am very tired all the time and have aching joints my oncologist has decided to take me of the anastrozole for 3 weeks to see if I feel an better, if not going to put me on Lectrozole . I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this and to see if anyone else has had similar problems

  • I'm guessing that are tying to see if it's the trial drug or anastrozole making you tired.  There will be joint pain with all the hormone blockers.  If you've been talking it consecutively them it may take longer to feel the difference. I know that it's possible to have a three month break annually on letrizole,  but have no idea about the others.

I'm tired a lot ( 27 months of letrozole), but also have long covid so I've no idea which is the culprit!

  • I've been taking it for 3 years

  • I have not heard of having 3 month break of letrozole annually! I’ve only been off it for 5 days and now I’m panicking the oestrogen is stirring things up again!!

  • Yes I've now been of it anastrozole for  2 weeks I'm the same

  • Hi , I’m another Anastrozole pill popper, for just over 3 years (since Dec 2018). I find the fatigue to be the worst side effect, I do have some joint pain, mainly in my feet, but not bad enough to stop me from walking lots, which is my passion. But I’m lucky that I was able to retire a few years earlier than planned, due to the ongoing fatigue. GP did blood tests for other possible causes but was all normal. It was work that was the greatest struggle so I’m very happy to have retired, even at some financial cost. But I know that’s not possible for all and also I was nearing that age anyway. Different for younger folk!
Re the break from Anastrozole and worries re hormone levels leaping back up, my understanding is that the oestrogen lowering effects last for quite some time afterwards, though that’s just from what I’ve read, I have no medical background.
Hope you get some answers, it’s all such a worrying minefield! Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Thank you I haven't been back to work yet due to the fatigue and was also thinking of taking early retirement but I'm only 64 and as you say it's the financial cost .

We e will see how things go I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem xx

  • I have went back to work on phased return. I currently work 2 evenings as district nurse. I usually work nightshift but have managed not to do that since starting back in January. I’m now doing my first nightshift on 4th April but by then I’m onto phased retirement. I’m 60 on April 16th, retire may 31st and going back on 1 nightshift and 1 evening a week. My kadcyla doesn’t finish untill June 8th so I’m working my last 4 infusions around my shifts. I’m scared I will be shattered with nights but will wait and see
