Hi , I had my first chemo done on Tuesday . First couple of days felt ok. Sickness is being controlled at the moment thankfully. It's just this Feeling of being totally and utterly knocked off my feet . When do you feel better . Does it get worse with every treatment? .
I felt better after about a week and was back to normal between treatments but it is a build up, so your time of feeling "normal" will get less towards the end of your treatment. However it is a feeling that becomes "familiar" which gives you an element of control. Glad you have not been sick, Hel 39 I had EC and the first treatment made me sick for 3 days, they increased my antisickness drugs for the second treatment which controlled it, chemo is not as bad as it's press, it is doable, thousands of women go before you, many more will follow behind, you will both soon be the ones supporting other scared women who have BC. Thinking of you both, love from Ann
It varies, depending on the type of chemo and individual response, but the treatments are set at intervals that are meant to allow you to get better before the next treatment. However, keep in touch with the team, they will want to know if that feeling lasts for more than a few days, and may be able to adjust thing a little before your next treatment if necessary.
Different chemo regimes will have different cummulative effects. With my first chemo I was fine for three months, then on the fourth month it was a complete wipe out. They adjusted the dose, and I went on for another six or seven months on that chemo. Stamina and energy levels were reduced, but the wipe out did not repeat.
For me it was really scary as you don’t know what you are going to feel like and was not prepared and was questioning if what I was feeling was normal . Speak to bcn but everyone is different from what I’ve been reading . For me I was wiped out for at least a week and then by day 10 felt a bit more like myself had a week of making the most of seeing people and doing house work before it all started again . I’ve had 3 ec and now on my 1st of 3 docetaxel which put me in hospital with the side affects managed by pain killers now not looking forward to no 5 feeling scared but have oncologist soon and have lots of questions
Yeah, and since responses to chemo are individual, there is not real, "supposed to," or at least not up to a certain point. For example, nausea is normal, even vomiting, but if someone here ever said they were constantly vomiting, I would tell them to contact their chemo hotline as a matter of urgency. It's a matter of degree. Also, the same treatment may result in different side effects or different degrees of the same side effect, from one patient to another. You are right then in saying that as treatment goes on you will indeed get to know what is normal for you.
Thank you for your reply . I really wish you the best . It's awful we have to go through this but hearing other people's experiences does help me realise people are coping and doing well which gives me hope. All the best x
That b….Docetaxel seems to have alot to answer for…!!!!
