Hi All
I'm currently having EC x3 ( 2 completed) followed by Docetaxel x3 before surgery. Hopefully chemo should finish the end of May when I have been told that I will need a 4-6 week break to clear the chemotherapy. Has anyone gone on holiday abroad during this time or been advised not to at all?
Thanks in advance
Hi LisaJDI finished my chemo mid Nov, had just a 2 week break as I was recovering well and bloods were on the good side, I then had my mastectomy 29th Nov and travelled for Christmas. I was fine, drain had been removed and I also did my pre radiotherapy session and was all set up to start when I returned from holiday. I was careful about not being in large crowds and groups and the airports were still very quiet at this time. Overall it was a great trip, I saw friends and family and felt normal. Then back abd in with the next log of treatment. My oncologist was fine with me travelling I also had just had my 3rd shot of Pfizer
Talk with your Dr and see what they say and then make your decision
Take care xx
I was told that they needed a gap of at least 4-6 weeks before most people are recovered enough for surgery after chemo too. I finished chemo 9th November and had my mastectomy and reconstruction 20th January. In the interim I went to my parents for 3 nights at Christmas 3 hours away and a friends for a different weekend 2 hours away and another overnight at a friends house an hour away. This was as much as I could cope with tbh. I had 3 EC and 4 docetaxel, I was really fatigued and bear in mind your immune system is very low in that first month, your taste buds are shot, etc. Personally I could not have done even a week abroad but I am single and maybe if I was travelling with a supportive partner that may have been different. We are all different as to how we react to chemo and some people seem to have a very good experience so this is an question you’ll get lots of differing responses too, I’d not book anything that isn’t fully refundable and I’d really consider where you’re going in case you’re unwell while away x
Also bear in mind that if you contract covid it could delay your surgery by 6 weeks, there’s increased risk in having surgery after covid infection as I understand it, I was still incredibly careful at avoiding crowds and unwell people as I didn’t want to jeopardise my treatment x
