Hi guys,I'm having a lumpsectomy on Tuesday, have to go in tomorrow to have a wire inserted tomorrow and have my dye injected, anyone else had this done.
What should I expect?
Feeling full of emotions today x
Hi there,
I had 3 wires inserted 2 weeks ago before my op the same day. It’s not painful, they give you a local anaesthetic first. Bit fiddly as mammogram/ultrasound to check the right location before and after. They tape it down so it’s secured and put a dressing over. My bra went back on okay, I had my op the same day so wasn’t too bad. I didn’t haven’t dye injected, but the lady next to me did. Except for a blue hue to her skin and blue wee she said it was fine, the blue is temporary…
Good luck tomorrow and Tuesday. Try to relax, take plenty of reading material with you. Have you got a soft bra for after your op?
Best wishes, Karen
Hi,
That’ll be fine. I would wear comfy clothes too. They said to take dressing gown and slippers to me as was a walk to theatre. They made a big thing about not taking valuables, but I couldn’t be without by phone.
Once you’re on the ward, they will do checks blood pressure and run through questions etc. Then probably the anaesthetist will come and meet you. Mine was lovely and very reassuring. The Surgeon will come and talk to you too, check which breast you’re expecting surgery and look at wire.
Everyone is different when it come to pain, but they will make sure you’re not in pain. They give you pain relief as part of anaesthetic and again if you want when you come round. Then once you’re ready you’ll go back to the ward, tea and biscuits, or something to eat, once you’ve eaten and had a wee they’ll probably be ready to send you home.
Once home I took paracetamol for a few days, but except for an odd twinge all good now.
It’s all a journey, I’m going back for results and wound check Tuesday.
Let me know how you get on.
My hubby wasn't allowed to stay, had to leave me at Reception. Lumpectomy was easiest bit, blue dye not an issue. Strange parlour in face after op, but that's the dye, nothing to worry about. Started exercises quickly, took paracetamol for pain/twinges. Had post op bras from M&S which are excellent. Used button up front type nightie ad hate pyjamas. I'm almost 7 weeks post op now. Starting chemo 15th March plus Radiotherapy, Herceptin Injections and long term Anastrazole tablets. Mine is Ductal, Invasive, 19mm, E8, P0, HER2 positive. Good luck with everything x
