Coping with docetaxel side effects

Hi all. So I started my 4th chemo session on Friday after having 3 cycles of FEC drugs I have now moved onto the docetaxel chemo drug.  1st 2 days were kinda ok with side effects, yesterday I started with mild flu like symptoms where my joints and muscles started aching. Today I'm laid up in bed aching and getting sort of tingling sensation in my nerves and sharp pains all over my body now and again.

I suffered with lots of fatigue and severely low energy levels with the FEC chemo which knocked me each session, but on the docetaxel is a whole new horrible experience, my oncologist did tell me that I would get these type of side effects. Has anyone else suffered similar horrible experiences with docetaxel and how long will I be laid in bed for. Can't wait til this is all over, thanks in advance. Xx

  • My first cycle of docetaxel knocked me over. I found that the side effects kept coming and like you, nothing really for the first couple of days. Paracetamol definitely helped with the aches/pains/chills

The first cycle, I could barely get off the sofa from days 2 to 10. My oncologist thought that was too long, so they reduced the dosage after that and I coped better, but I still found docetaxel tough.

    • I'm on my 2nd cycle of docetaxel after 3 cycles of EC.. My worse symptoms (like yours) are from day 4 then I  pick up on day 8. Im.day 5 at the moment . I think you can only go with it and rest knowing that in a few days you will feel better.  It's not easy.

    Take care  xx

  • Gosh yes it's definitely relentless, hope I feel bit more normal in next few days, just gotta rest in bed all time till I do. Its not easy at all. Thank you .

  • I also suffer from this, I’ve taken painkillers as well, sometimes I struggle to walk, it’s very painful. Do take some painkillers but also talk it through with your team, particularly if you have lots of the sharp nerves sensations x

  • I'm taking paracetamol but doesn't ease much. The sharp nerve sensations are horrible. I think I'll talk with my oncologist and nurses on how to cope. Rolling eyes xx

  • That’s a good idea, they may give you something stronger to help x
