Hi everyone .

Well the only place I would feel comfortable asking such a personal question could be here !

On Tamoxifen which is ok so far but recurring bladder infections have been plaguing me for a while . I am on Hiprex prescribed by my gynocologist .

Has anyone recommendations on a vaginal cream which won’t cause thrush or set off my bladder again ?

Thanks a million

Penelope xx

  • hi I'm on tamoxifen too and suffer bladder problems my BCN and consultant agreed I could have a very low dose of vagifem I use one every night atm for 2 weeks then do one every other day they are pessarys you insert I won't say where lol and so far so good . hope rhis might help you .

  • I had breast cancer 19 years ago, thought cured, but then last year found out it had spread. Obviously looked into why after so long. Talking to a CNS I found that the estrogen cream that my GP had prescrobed for me after consulting with the cancer consultant (who said go ahead) is the very likely cause of the cancer's return. It did say on the instructions not to be used if you'd had breast cancer & I did question it more than once. I'm sure their recommendations were to the best of their knowledge but obviously I wouldn't go with that now. Just wanted to share so if others find themseves in that position they'll be extremely careful.

  • Hi Penelope welcome to the forum. I have the same issues and use Hyalofemme which is prescribed by my GP and is is in a gel form that you insert into the vagina and can come with an applicator. The other one is Vagisil which you can buy or ask the  GP to put it onto prescription for you if it works for you and also has no hormones in it.

Do you know if your Breast Cancer was hormone receptive at all? If it was the jury is currently out on whether woman who have had Hormone receptive Breast Cancer should be given Vaginal Oestrogen cream. The Tamoxifen is designed to inhibit the production of Oestrogen so it may be worth having a chat wit the breast team and see if they could advise you in this, or if you wanted to you could call the McMillan Line a call and speak to one of the Nurses there for more detailed advice and information. 08088080000.

  • Thankyoufir that I'm going to try something else as now worried about the cream I'm on

  • I had replens MD prescribed by my doctor and now on regelle as it's a thinner applicator and single use as I was wondering whether the replens had set off a UTI.

I'm getting on well with the regelle.

For bladder issues, I take a daily dose of d-mannose and you can increase if you feel an infection coming on or use more while you're getting it all under control again It really does work, but not available on prescription

  • Hi Everyone , thankyou for your replies to my question .

As always kind and informative .

I am now on Hyalofemme which I have only just started so let’s hope it does the trick!

I cannot go on the oestrogen cream as my cancer was oestrogen led . Thank god I read your post my gyno said I couldn’t go on Hyalofemme on a  NHS prescription so I only went and bought 3 tubes on Amazon . Lesson learnt there .
Im also on Hiprex for the bladder , seems ok .
Lots of love to you all

    xx
