Mastectomy, round 2

I had a left mastectomy three and a half months ago. Great job, but it does not yet feel normal, small aches and pains as the nerves are healing, etc. In just over a week I am having the other side done, this time not to treat any existing cancer but as a necessary preventative measure. The surgeon is also going to deal with a small issue on the left, which would require lengthening the original incision.

Last time I managed ok while my left side was out of action as I am right-handed. This time it is mostly my dominant side but there will be a some limitation due to the other side involvement. It's a question of practicalities – getting in and out of bed, in and out of the bath, etc. I have good motor skills in my left hand so can easily do certain things with that hand, the concern at the moment is about the immediate period, when both sides may not be so great. I could always call the fire brigade to get me out of the bath Sweat smile but I thought I'd ask here first. Slight smile

  • When I had my dmx I bought stick on rails for bathroom and to get in bath I knelt then flipped over and to get out I flipped onto my knees and knelt to get out the rail steadied me

  • Get yourself a bath bench that goes across it if you shower in bath.  To get in/ out of bed I think you going to need to sleep propped up and out a chair back neck yo bed do you've something to hold I yo until you get stronger.  Xx
