Chemotherapy

Hi everyone,

I have been told that it is advisable to have chemo as the consultant wasn't sure if it would be of any benefit.  They have removed all the cancer out when I had my mastectomy and removed most of my lymph nodes.  Because of this they were going to put me on a trial to see if I was high risk or low risk but could not have it done as I have 3 lymph nodes left if I had only two they could have done it.  I have decided to have it although I wasn't happy about it but if it did come back I would kick myself.  So I have now accepted the fact that I am having it and I start it on 23rd February. Wish me luck.

  • Good luck. Sounds like it will give you peace of mind in the long run xx

  • I too decided to have chemo although they are not sure of the benefit of it.

I am glad I did and after two sessions side effects have been manageable.

    Good luck x

  • Better to be safe than sorry. You CAN do this!! Good luck for 23rd

  • Thank you Gander I just want to start it and get it out of the way.

  • Thank you Gracie69 that is encouraging.

  • Hi Rodger’s, it’s a shame you find yourself in this position, I totally understand your apprehension. I’m sure you’ll find it’s nowhere near as bad as you imagine. I had my first one today and it was really easy, so much easier than all the worrying I did beforehand. You’ll smash it, keep your positive head on. Best of luck x

    Hi Roders,

Yes have the chemo I did it's ok keep following the advice they give you. And it will soon be over. I was tired one week out of three. Never had any sickness but kept taking the mountains of tables they give you !  Best wishes x

  • Hiya it is a tough decision to make, but to be honest I think you have made the right choice.

I had dcis in 2012, had mastectomy, and then 5 years of tamoxifen.

Unfortunately I was diagnosed with invasive grade 3 on my mastectomy side sept 2021. I had WLE, followed by more surgery because no clear margins. I am now on the chemo journey 3× EC, followed by 3× Docetaxel. I have just had my second cycle of EC so a third of the way through.

In hindsight maybe I should have had this as an option? Surgeon said that the statistics of it coming back the same side is 3/100.

Good luck with it all, it is a journey, and just keep focused, the bad days don't last forever xx and the good days make you feel euphoric lol xx

  • I want my treatment plan and start date. How long does chemo usually take on a typical day?
