Hi all, was just wondering how long after treatment finishes does the tiredness stop? Wading my way through radiotherapy and just feel tired, tired tired!!!

  • Hi

Sorry you are experiencing fatigue with radiotherapy.  I don't know how long it lasts, but in the meantime up your fluid intake and it might help a little with the symptoms.

When I went to radio. there were 2 of us who were drinking lots and lots (squash, tea, coffee) and we didn't suffer any fatigue. In contrast 2 other ladies who were at the same time slots weren't drinking very much at all and they really, really suffered with fatigue.  One lady had only had 2 cups of tea by our 3.30pm slot and she'd fallen asleep at her desk at work that day!

You may be drinking plenty, but just in case this tip helps in the meantime, before someone else pops on the thread who's experienced fatigue.

    Kindest Wishes, Lesley

  • Hello Gez60, I'm due to start radiotherapy shortly and have been told by the oncologist that, as with other treatments, side effects will vary from person to person but to expect to feel fatigue for up to two months after radiotherapy ends. I'm already suffering fatigue from two operations and 6 months of chemo and it all seems to accumulate so it isn't unusual to take a year or longer to recover from cancer treatment. I've found that going out for a walk every day does help with the fatigue as I tend to sleep better at night so am less tired during the day. I think you just have to listen to your body and take rests when you need to x
