Went for my third annual mammogram yesterday to be asked if further surgery had be done since last year’s Mammogram which I replied No. The reply was that my scar from my lumpectomy in 2019, had not shown on last years one. She actual showed me last years no sign of the scar, but was definitely showing on yesterdays thin white line shape. I’m a bit confused has anybody had this happen to them. I have to wait 3/4 weeks for results.
I wonder if they have upgraded from 2D to 3D, or from film-screen to digital. May be worth asking your breast care nurse to look into this for you. Other than that, the only other thing that comes to mind is the angles: the breast is 3D of course, but the images we are shown are 2D. What I have in mind is similar to this: if you look at an image of a whole person from the front it would look different to the image you would get if you look from the top.
Was there any mention of the scar in you first year annual mammogram? If you are unable to get answers from your team at this time, perhaps try calling Macmillan, they may be able to help.
Thank you for your reply. I had first annual mammogram done at hospital I am still under. Had appointment for results no mention about not seeing scar on image. Second and third ones have been done at different hospital due to availability. I had second years mammogram results over the phone from breast care nurse, at hospital I had surgery done, also received results by letter no mention about the scar. I was told if I hadn’t heard anything by 3 weeks to phone up to try and get results. I’ve phoned breast care nurse up and keft message for her to contact me.
Hi Grey Cats after making a couple of phone calls to try and find out why I would have been told about scar not showing on year 2 mammogram. Spoke to a lovely Breast Care Nurse where I had my treatment, who couldn’t give me an answer. She said she would email the hospital where mammogram had been done to try and fast track my results. She called me today to confirm results were normal no change the news I was hopping for. I will save my question till my next phone call appointment with oncologist.
Thanks for letting me know; good to hear you are in the clear!
I hope they do come back to you with some answers about the oddity in the scans, and I am interested in what they may have to say about this. Your oncologist too may be at a loss to explain it, but he can (and in my opinion, should) query it with the radiographers or the radiologists.
